What do you guys recommend having on hand when a new cat comes into a house? I've never owned a cat before.

A spray bottle. To train them not to claw and shit and piss everywhere. And catnip.

I read an article recommended by a vet... to put a slight bit of vinegar in the water, not very much maybe less than one tenth per volume. In the spray bottle that is.

It does work. I shared the article with my neighbor who's cat was into clawing the curtains and furniture, everything BUT the several scratching posts they'd bought for General.

Within a few days of the spray bottle, the cat was broke ... and the catnip... its good to buy it loose in a baggie.... take a T-shirt, with a pocket, and fill it full with catnip...cut out around the pocket, and tie with a thick yarn, they love it.

I used to make those little toys with all my cats.
You can leave length on the yarn and allow the cat to chase it.

A kitty tree-house covered in carpet. Just teach them how to scratch that and only that, and your furniture will be cherry.

A litter box, scoopable cat litter (best if you sift it at least once a day, possibly more if it's a kitten. They can be stinky!), little puffballs you can buy from the craft section at a store (I think they're called pom poms), kitty litter sifter, febreeze, cat nip, and a small to medium cardboard box or a paper grocery bag for kitty to investigate. Oh, and dry food. Naturally a food and water feeder or bowl to put it in.

I got my own cat bout 5 months ago and I called her Lirazel and shes adorable but she has a few probles like if im too tired or forget to scoop the kitty litter she craps on the floor and my mums cats cant get used to her.
One (the younger one, Bob) has MAJOR attachment issues and has to have her there or it freaks out when it wakes up and the older cat , Tuff, is an absidian and he just gets the shits cos bob takes it out on him untill we stick bobs head into our cat nip plant and mellows out.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to bring balance?

Oh, and a cat will scratch the lounge and stuff to leave its scent as well as sharpen its claws, and if you cant get a squirt bottle toss a bunch of keys next to it, not at it Bikerpunk, to scare it.
