Restart your computer & manualy hold down the eject button through the entire restart process (start before you hit power to turn it on)

if you look close there should be a tiny hole near wehere the cd tray comes out of all you need to do is insert a paperclip and the cd tray should pop out

I'd reboot and then try this option and then try prying it open and then start kicking the machine. Pretty much in that order, unless one of those attempts works of course.

Yes I rebooted and found the hole and I am prying away with a paper clip to no avail. I even went into MY COMPUTER, right clicked the damn CD drive and clicked on EJECT, and it just made a noise as if it were TRYING to open.

Now I will kick the damn thing!!! Throw it out the window into the Hudson River!!

Do what I did once: take it out in the drive way and fuck it up with a shovel. If you don't manage to split the drive in two I should work nicely---but I lost a good CD that way!

Oh, I assumed that laptops had an eject button like home pc's...what I told you to do is the method of manualy reseting the drive, so if it doesn't work it usualy means the drive is in short FUCKED beyond repair. perhaps you can do it with the paperclip in the hole while you restart?

Laptop CD-ROMs also have the manual release hole

I tied the paper clip too. This is the receptionists computer, the one that no one else wants. They always give me the horrible computers that don't work. It creaks all the time.

I had someone e-mail me the photo from a copy shop.

Try pushing in the drive, before pressing the eject button again. It happened to me on my home computer not long ago. Just push it back in firmly, but not too hard.

Did you try selecting the drive in your My Computer window and hitting eject? Try doing that in safe mode...

If it's a broken drive then your best bet it to force it open and buy a new one.

Yes, I tried that, and it makes a creaking noise and starts shaking as if it is trying to open and is stuck. Soon it will start to smoke and catch on fire. (Don't laugh, the last computer they gave me actually DID start to smoke and there was a smell of burning plastic!!)

I think someone put bubble gum and paper clips in it. Or spilled pepsi on it. Or both!!!

Open up the case and try removing the drive if you can. It sounds like it's jammed on something. If the cord is long enough, pull the drive out of your machine and leave it still hooked up, and see if it'll open then. If so, there's something in your case getting in the way; if not, then it's a problem with the drive itself.

How did the paperclip suggestion go? Did you try unfolding a strong paperclip and pushing it in the tiny manual exect hole rather firmly and push hard? That really should release the drive at least enough to pry it open.
