The thing is, if a band is just bad I have no problem with them. My hatred of a band only happens when they become unescapable. Dave Matthews and Lenny Kravitz are two examples. I don't hate Britteney Spears because I never seem to hear her music, but Dave and Lenny creep into even the alternative stations. Sooner or later they sneak up on me and expose themeselves. It's a nightmare.

Ditto. As a producer/musician, though, I will pick out songs that most people would say are crap and eat em up. I have been trying to distance the "image" of a musician from the actual music and listen with my ears instead of my eyes. So here is a weird list:

Dislike their fashion sense: Any emo band (they all shop at American Eagle anyway, so how do you tell them apart!)

Dislike the actual music: keane (snore), coldplay (double snore), trapt (even their name is stupid)

Any Christian punk band, those two adjectives should cancel eachother out.and any band that sounds just like any other band, ie bands that try to be other bands (godsmack i'm looking at you).
that should just about cover the extent of it.

Personally, I like the fact that AE and BDM remember what riffs and songwriting are, as opposed to most of the monophonic slipknot/mudvayne shite out there. Agreed on Maiden, tho.

It's hard. I've been practicing for a little over 5 months. My voice does go out at times. But I wait a day, and go back to it if my voice is back that day. No serious damage yet. I try to keep my vocal chords as lubricated as I can.

I'm no where NEAR ready to scream my heart out for hours though. Practice makes perfect... or so they say.

don't worry if you just sing lame hardcore growls for hours then it won't matter if you pass out because your audience will be long gone. i'm not trying to talk shit, just give some advice. screaming is cool now and then, but why don't you vary it up with some real singing? trust me, the audience will appreciate it. and they can sense when a band is trying to hard to sound tuff it doesn't matter how much you scream and how fast you are, if the audience doesn't get that you are feeling it, they won't either. one time I saw a band just like that and they got all pissed off because no one wanted to get up and move and they actually wondered why, it's not the audience that's lacking the motivation, it's the band.
