Default Has anyone here seen the TV show Alias?

Wow, I thought I had heard that Alias was a great show, so I rented the first three episodes on DVD. It has been a long time since I saw something so painfully predictable and painfully acted. The only thing worse than the soundtrack is the writing. Gotta love a character who is supposed to be a badass spy whose main capability is changing implausible wigs from time to time. I admit that I've only watched the first episode and part of the second one. Does this show get any better later on? Do any of the actors grow into their absurdly by-the-book characters? Do the wigs get more believable?

I can't get past her horrible acting or that of the shows cast really...I really don't see why it's so popular.

I too have heard only positive comments on it, but seeing only five mins. of one episode, I wouldn't think I have proper knowledge to make a judgement.

yeah, the show is really ridiculous. she wears these outragious disguises like slutty chik/ rich heiress/ punk rocker/ goth dancer, etc. etc... basically things that really stand out and get people's attention, which is the total opposite of a spy's goal: you want to be someone that is totally boring and forgetable. I think the producers just want to cash in on the whole spy game and haven't studied at all what real life espionage is like.

on the other hand I think there is a show called MI5 about the british secret agent service that is based on real life espionage tactics (or maybe it's just a british "24") I think it aired on like bravo or A&E. that looked pretty interesting, but I haven't seen it.

Excellent show...it's not like 24 at all since it's less action movie influenced and revolves around more self contained stories. The first 2 seasons are on DVD and well worth the purchase price.

Alias is clearly going for over the top action/sex appeal...La Femme Nikita (The tv series) was much much better...untill they fucked it all up with the love affair.

I'll have to check it out. I get BBC America, so maybe it will broadcast on there.

PS I boycotted the La Femme Nikita TV show because I thought the movie was excellent and didn't need anything redone with a blonde. Ah, that scene with the writing implement.

Totally. I think the producers of that show have stock in an unconvincing wig company.

The first season of the show is actually quite good...it's much more dramatic than the film and stylish in a european TV show kinda way. It reminds of the Highlander TV show when it shot in Europe. It's not a modern classic but not a bad way to spend an hour. The actress they picked was dead on perfect and would have loved to have seen her take over the film role...but the producers royally fucked up the show making it more romance based than it should have been by the 2nd season.

Rent the show LEXX from SciFi. 10,000 year old dead assassin..a talking robot head...a sex slave and a captain all manning a space ship that looks like a cock trying to blow up the earth... that was an awesome show!!

I've seen MI5 (In Britain called "Spooks") and it's good, but you need to watch it from the beginning or nothing makes sense. There are some "made-for-tv" aspects, but love the Brit action.

MI5 is an exellent show. As for cop shows I stick to my CSI: Las Vegas.
BBC produces some exellent shows, and BBC America is generally good for putting some of them into circulation. If you watch BBC America look out for a mini-series called "Second Coming". It was well acted and very interesting.

Also, Lexx is one screwed up show. Very entertaining and overtly sexual.

Alias = Booooring..... Saw part of one episode.... Snoozer... Bad production, bad acting... Looks like it belonged on cable circa 1993 before cable had any decent original programming. Or maybe Weird Al Yankovic's "UHF" channel.

I just started watching the show this season, since they moved it from Sunday nights. I like it, actually. It's pure escapism, and sometimes I need that. LOL! I think they sustain the tension well, in spite of the somewhat formulaic plotlines.

And sometimes they have cool stuff happen, like a guy gets infected with some kind of bio agent, and his limbs start to turn to powder and fall off. Trippy.

I enjoy Alias quite a bit. Not the best show I ever saw, but I like it better than most of what passes for major network programming. I'm still only in the first season, though.

I think the show can be a bit disconcerting the way it jumps between 007-style spy shit and goofy Buffy-isms (ya know, like the wacky, jokey Buffy, not the angsty Buffy).

It's supposed to be based after (or inspired by) le femme nakita. She's supposed to be this balls hard secret agent with nerves of steel yet every commercial I see of it she's always wining in it..."i dont wanna kill my ------"
caught the season finale, straight up resident evil rip off. it sucks.

Actually, I like Alias better than the TV show, "La Femme Nikita," although it would be hard to beat the original French film (the American version certainly didn't - talk about miscast!).

I DID like the TV Femme Nikita for awhile, especially with the forbidden romance angle, but it just got too dark and depressing and angsty after awhile. I can be dark and depressing and angsty all by myself! LOL!

I wouldn't do Garner's character in Alias with somebody else's dick. She might be hot in real life.

Yeah, but hey, zombies! Almost any time you get to see zombies on TV, it's good! And if you're going to steal, steal something good. Actually, I was more reminded of 28 Days Later.

Did anyone else see the remake of the Dawn of the Dead and get disappointed?
