Default What is Blue Bloods opinion of rising "competition" sites?

I have noticed recently there has been more and more goth/alt lifestyle photography sites rising. I'm just curious about the general opinions of the blue blood community on them. As well as the opinions of Amelia & Forrest. There is one specific site I would like to know about, but will not name. However I will abbreviate it is GG so that those who are in the know, can give me their opinion.

My opinion in general is that it was always my intention to be inspirational. Inspiration is a good thing.

I've expressed my opinion in specific elsewhere, but I'll spare everyone here that and just say thanks to Camby for not posting an obnoxious url and repeat the following portion:

It is not news that it can be profitable for media megacorps to take something edgy and pure and beautiful and dilute it to sell a low-rent version of it. Everyone knows ************ is the hot topic of the genre. Here is a news bulletin, however: Anyone who launches a copycat site is going to be one of two things (1) a failure or (2) a corporate fake. I'm sick of greedy corporate men convincing some girl to pretend she is in charge when the slightest research will show she owns and runs nothing and is just there for show. I am embarrassed for my gender that anyone would go along with being a mascot like that. If you are true to yourself and do something passionate and from the heart, then you can be independent and still have a chance. You shouldn’t be an imitation of someone else because, even if you succeed at being a copycat, you still won’t feel good looking yourself in the mirror.

true that there are other "Goth/deviant " sites on the web, but I doubt any have the same quality as the Blue Blood sites have.

Much like anything else that becomes the victim of copy. Time tests all things, the original survives and the rest dissappear when the blind followers follow whatever else "new" comes along. The big diffrence is a little thing called heart. BlueBlood was created with it, the rest only can strive to failure to imitate that.

true sign of quality: blueblood appeals not only to goths but also any number of other well educated, opinionated people living on the fringe.

Personally I think it depends on where you put the line between competition and other sites/artists becoming more visible.

Given that in recent years anything deemed outside the norm has become very fashionable. It's natural that more sites that cater to people who are themselves outside the norm, are popping up all over.

I think it's both good and bad. I find it unfortunate that a culture that has been around for a long time is getting wholesaled and washed out to be palatable to the masses. On the positive side there is the possibility that there will be more room for diversity in the world of 'alternative'.

I find the uber slick corporate entities that slap up a girl with a belly ring and a couple of flash inspired tattoos not to be to my taste. And really in the long run things like that don't last because they don't have the support of people who really care. Like any other fad the fascination will pass and the next hot thing will come along. The sites and communities that have real passion and are driven not by marketability will be the ones left standing.

I do think that the mainstreaming of things deemed "goth/deviant" is a good window of opportunity to get some diversity into the culture. I'd really love to see the scene opened up to new artists and ideas that while they might be around haven't gotten quite to the level of Blueblood.

    That was my 2.5 cents.

Nope. Frankly, it looks to me that they are just making a big to do about it for 'controversy' points. It's like calling yourself punk rawk for being told to be quiet in the library. Right or wrong, the rules are the rules, everybody gets to follow them. It's not a big federal case/law like they are making it out to be though. It's just a credit card billing requirement everybody *should* have been in compliance with for years now.

I fail to see why blueblood.net would give a damn, seeing as they've already got the reputation.
