tell what you think
tell what you think
A God is the Manifestation of a Belief, Thought, Emotion, etc, generated by a massive amount of people.
Here is an example: You get 500 Million people together, and they are all focused on a certain thought, emotion, or aspect, such as Joy, or any other type of feeling. That is a basic step in creating a God.
Destroying a God works in a similar, but different way.
To destroy a God, you need to wipe out all knowledge that that God Existed, or believe in that God.
Those are the basic ways, but you can ask for Details.
this thread could get deep and confusing.....ive never believed in a god/goddess so im gonna stick with that
He just was is and will be. the how is'nt importent. not to me.
A plausible theory that I have is that God could be a member of an Alien Race with far advanced technology on Genetics and Evolution, etc.
Either way, both cases could be right.
I think God is actually a program....... standing for General Operations Directive....... but that's because I watch too much Sci-Fi if such a thing exists.
Depressing, yet possible.Originally Posted by hewhoisagod

To me, it doesn't really matter who gave that fairytale wings. Although I do find it funny how many people buy into the ideology.
wow you could spent forever on this subject... im not sure what to believe...all i know is there has to be some greater power or force out there
This is off topic because its more about religion in general, and not about who gave god life.
I was born and raised mormon. Baptised at the age of 12 if i recall right. I liked the bread they handed out ^.^ i took like 5 pieces... you're only supposed to take 1
Anyways, the thought of there being something greater than all of us, and has pre-recorded -if you will- our lifes, isn't all that much of a shocker. I've believed it for as long as i can remember. Everything happens for a reason, whether it be a lesson, or a warning of what to come if you continue doing that thing.
About who gave god life, It was back in the day... I think they wanted "God" to explain why things happened, or how they happened. Correct me if im wrong, but its human nature to be curious. And to want to know why things happen. They get curious, and create a God to explain a lot of things at once. Although other religions create a God for other reasons. Thats what I think about this.... *shrug* it may not seem bright, but im not a bright person

there is no god just something made up by the church to scare people why do you all those priest touch little boy they know there not going anywhere(hell/ heaven)
The human mind needs to explain everything. But some things can't be explained, that's how gods are created. [i]Wtf? what was that light on the sky and where came that sound from? It must've been a god and we better build an altar and bring him sacrifices, or he might kill us..[i]
And since science will never be able to explain everything that happens, there will always be the need for an excuse in the form of a god.
Just because catholic priests molest children, doesn't mean they believe less in the bible than other catholics. There are also teachers who molest children. Sanitors. Bus drivers. I don't think from all child molestors, the percentage of priests is higher than any other profession. Not that I'm going to justify them.
Anyway, everyone needs an excuse for things that can't be explained. Christians believe in God almighty, Wiccans believe in the power of nature spirits, Atheists believe that "something" is causing all phenomenons and that one day, sience will find an explanation.
I'm Atheist too.
Sticky question. THe way I see it is this: there is a huge portion of the mind that is sub conscious. There is a HUGE portion of existance (like all of it) that is unexplainable. Being tiny creatures on a small ball of dirt in the boundless universe, in order to wrap our tiny minds around that concept and the concept of "Why?" we devled deep into our souls and decided there must be something stronger than us. Several people living together, i.e. a small villiage, will eventually come to the same conclusion about the same "power" that is playing, not a cosmic game of chess, but a huge complex game of solitaire and that, for the sake of argument, He makes all descions about why and who and fate and all that. Not saying that humans made god be fore he made us, or whatever, but that the need to believe in something is almost as depely rooted as the need to communicate with others, be it other people, animals, nature etc. Even Aethiests have faith that there is no god, and so technically by believing he doesn't exist, they believe in him. it's very complex and without my erratic hand gestures it's hard to get across, but you see where this is going...

I don't believe in one omnipotent, omniscient, loving "God". On the other hand I don't believe in a "Goddess" either. I need more proof than just people saying "he's there" or "he exists". So I would definitely say that people gave G(g)od(s) life. W/o humans, would there be an idea of God(s)? Which came first, chicken or the egg?
I like and respect your point. I think there is a lot more value in considering the opinions and viewpoints of others, and not knocking them out of consciousness. I think it's strange how me put our personal problems on concepts and make deity's we hate, just as well as we make ones that are supposed to free us of many forms of complicated personal responsibility. To believe totally, one way, seems very ignorant and dangerous to me. If the point strikes something within you, there is probably something to it, in any religion, philosophy or method.Originally Posted by postcoital

Fair enough. I was actually quoting a song that I absolutly adore by Voltaire, called, I belive, "I know what God thinks". Terribly funny and painfully true.

"Religion is the oldest form of mind control"
Saw that on a bumper sticker once. Laughed so hard I nearly cried. But then I had to ask, "Is it ALL religions that control the mind? Or just some, like the Christian ones? What about American Indian Beliefes? or Roman? or Norse?"
Then I started studying the myriad of religions out there to find my answers. Still looking.

I'm not even looking. Christian church soured me something fierce, i'm afraid. I think i'm probably an atheist, but i don't care enough to make sure.
