(CBS 11 News) DALLAS A 16-year-old girl is hospitalized after a shooting at a ‘Back-to-School’ party in Dallas. The shooting happened early Sunday morning in the 6500-block of Tree Top Lane, near a Boys and Girls Club.

Police believe the injured teenager was an innocent bystander.

Some residents, who did not want to be identified, told CBS 11 News the shooters were from others areas of north Texas. Apparently they were upset about not being invited to the party.

Residents say about 50 kids attended a ‘Back-to-School’ party in the 3400-block of Tioga. The party extended down the street to the outside of a local Boys & Girls Club, that's where witnesses say things got out of control.

“There was a little party on the other side of the street. About 20-40-50 youngsters come here and want to fight, and one of the young girls got shot,” one resident told CBS 11 News.

Dallas police say two cars drove near the occupants and started firing. According to officials the 16-year-old girl was taken to Baylor University Medical Center after being shot in the buttocks. The teenager is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials say one of the suspects stole a vehicle from the scene.

Authorities say it's unclear who the suspects were targeting or why. As it stands, police say they have leads in the case and the investigation continues.
