    Default Sugar Gliders

Exotic Marsupials that I've never seen in a zoo. Adorable little creatures. I met my first one in a pet shop in Fla. Prolly cause there are several breeders of these adorable lil creatures in central Fla...

On my way back from my Pascal final exam, some years ago, I was a little dazed. They had us write out a moderately complex program to solve a moderately complicated problem, but for some seemingly insane reason, they had us write the program on paper, in pen. This threw me off a little, to say the least. It went ok though. Anyhow, I stumbled back to my dorm and there was a ferret just standing there staring at me. He looked a little like the picture posted above. I really wasn't sure what to do with it. I didn't want the dorm authorities to get hold of it and send it away, but I had no idea who's it was. So, we kept it for a number of days. Watching my coked out room mate excitedly play a clumsy game of chase-tag-hide-seem-jump-run with the animal for days on end was certainly entertaining. I was however, really happy when the girl from NJ eventually showed up at the door and took him back. The Sugar Glider looks a lot cuter.

Well the site that I trust, since I've been to their facility sells them for around $300 - $400 depending on whether you want a white faced or black face lil creature. (They do ship!) And that's about as good of a price as you're going to get. Unfortunatly in the state of CA you have to have a licesnse to own one since Marsupials are considered wild animals.

OMG....Those are cute as hell....DAMNIT...Now I gotta save up to get one to add to my exotic pet collection...The Hedge Hogs would love that thing...The snake would probally like to eat that thing...But I would let her...

    $400....Kinda steep...

Now I am in a dilema...There is a woman that lives near here that raises Capuchi Monkeys and I have been talking to her about buying one...She wants $600 for a baby with its canines removed....

My friend back home has ordered a pair of Kinkajous...He is waiting for them to pass through customs and quarentine...He said he should get them in about another week....

This is a Kinkajou....They are Nocturnal tree dwellers...Which is great for him he works 2nd shift and is up most of the night...I have been helping him turn a small bedroom in his house into a forrest...We have tree limbs and other plants in there ...We hadd to send pictures of the room for the animals to the people he is buying them from before they would agree to sell them to him...

I was re-reading the site (http://www.sugar-gliders.com) and ifn you're not to specific about the colouring of the glider its not as bad as all that, $175, plus habitat and stuff. If you buy a second one (terribly social creatures) these guys will let you have lil' discount on the second one at $150. I wasn't reading properly, happens to me alot. But they are difficult to care for, or so I've been reading. Very specific dietary needs and all. But they are adorable.

Yes K I was going to say- they are known for being really high maintenance...believe it or not- when I went through a second childhood back in the 90s - I thought I would recreate my fond memories by buying two guinea pigs..that lasted abt a year!!!! They are just small livestock and you have to clean, clean , clean all the time..I have a cat now..I prefer a creature that can look you in the eye and relate you...in other words, a person with fur -P.

It seems to have Bats in it's ancestry? Would I be correct in assuming that?

It reminds me of a Cross between a Monkey, a Raccoon, and a Bat.

Bats are rodents. Sugar gliders are marsupials, like kangaroos. I see it more as a flying squirrel plus racoon plus sugar.

Anyone here interested in hedgehogs? I ask because I used to breed them...and many friends of mine were/are into breeding sugar gliders. They seem to share alot of common enthusiasts.

seems that we have alot of exotic hobbyists here. anyone looking for sugar gliders (or chinchillas or hedgehogs or bats for that matter) at a good price should check out critterhobbyist. (search for it, I can't post a link)

Sugar gliders are nocturnal. Can't you tell by looking at those huge dark eyes that are all pupil?

As Val Kilmer said 'bats aren't rodents'- I'm not sure of the exact phylum -but it's not the rodent family- people often make that mistake P.

Well they're not Marsupials and they're not related to the sugar glider. I've always been told (granted I grew up in a place where the theory of evolution was banned) that bats are rats with wings. And wasn't that quote from Batman?

Yep- from Batman Forever- yes, like I said that's what I thought as well..I don't have an encyclopedia handy..but I'll look it up tonight and tell you what it says...don't feel bad though - they are trying to ban evolution everywhere and say it's 'just a theory' - which it is not! P.
