What keeps you from sleeping when you should? What gives you insomnia?

I usually just can't turn my thoughts off...I worry about things,or plan for the next day,or fantacize. Also,I think I keep alot of tension in my facial area throughout the day, cause when I finally relax my head hurts, centering around my brow/forehead region, and I can't get comfortable.

I've always had a pretty bad problem w/ getting to sleep,my husband on the other hand is out literally as soon as his head hits the pillow, lucky bastard.

Yeah me to DvntMom, my mind just just keeps spinning a million miles an hour. Just thinking about stuff, day dreaming, planning... wondering if I locked the door... did I forget laundry in the washer... shit like that, but only happens to me when I'm sober. It's a weird thing, I sleep way better going to bed fucked-up but I'm better in the mornings when I don't. I can't win either way.

Usually I'm just really restless at night. I've found a sleeping schedule that works pretty well for me now though. It'd probably make most people cringe :\

I think there should be a better name for it. People think that stuff like Restless Legs Syndrome is like a funny way of saying that you toss and turn or don't feel sleepy and they don't realize it is a real thing which can totally prevent restorative sleep.

You know, now that I think about it, I get insomnia frequently for no reason at all. I only start thinking about death when it hits 3am and I still haven't been able to get to sleep, or when I wake up at 3am randomly.

All of the above, I have always had trouble sleeping... Also, street noises in NYC especially on my street can be really loud... Or if I am having trouble with whatever horrible boyfriend...

Also I like to get up and do things early in the morning, especially email Europe because that is the perfect time, so I just never sleep. I work full time, I wake up all hours and email people, but that's how I got in Vogue Magazine. Sometimes you just have to be on top of it...

    You do

    The internet in general...
    since we have abolished
    the television and haven't
    had one in several years,
    the web has replaced it.

    But given the infinite and
    massive body of work that
    you and Mr. Black have
    produced and made available
online, it does make it hard to
    get to sleep.

(that just made me think of a joke)
Q: What's the difference between light on and hard on?
A: You can always go to sleep with the light on.

Although even when I am finally
able to get to sleep, it doesn't always
mean I get to stay in slumber...
I still suffer from night terrors
    and horrific nightmares, unfortunately
nothing of the Hollywood horror flick
kind.. mostly vivid replays of events
that have happened in real life, in my
life... it's always been the same for as
long as I can remember and ever since
I was young I've mostly only slept about
    5 hours a night.

Wow, I totally get the same kind of nightmares you do. Not all the time or anything, but, when I do, it is usually a realistic replay of something bad that actually happened. No flying monsters or anything interesting. Unless there were actually flying monsters at the time of course. My conscious mind is apparently waaaaaaaaaaaay more creative than my unconscious one. I used to get night terrors as a kid and I think that contributes greatly to the vampire I have become as an adult.

One of the most bizarre 'dreams' I had involved
a house fire in which I was pulling someone
from... when I woke up I had a blistered section
on my forearm.. just under a second degree burn.

Of course it stems back to when I was a child
and being brought to the scene of firemen
bringing my great uncle out of his burnt house,
still smoldering in his easy chair, what was left
    of him and his chair.

I really have to give Muse the most credit for
putting up with my fucked up sleep pattern
and abnormal fuckery that goes on, between
me waking up swinging and jumping up wide
awake at the slightest of noise... she has yet
    to stab me.

I'm usually not up wayyy into the night and into the light, I'm usually passed out on the couch or in bed by or around 12:30 am. It gives me time to get all my TV in, and be online for a couple hours after work (I swear though I'm going to get fired though).

We always use extra protection and we will until we get the all-clear, possibly even after that. Laura has an implant, and has been trying to get sterilised for 10 years but they say she is too yong and doesn't know what she wants. She's been saying the same thing for 10 years, she's 27 now. I think she knows.

As for the word SNARGLIES, it comes from a bit of advice about the pre-op exam.
Get the pre-exam. You stand with your pants around your ankles, while a doc squeezes your snarglies. Now the doc had a firm, gentle touch, and kind eyes, but man, someone lays a vice-like grip on your snarglies, and you will notice.
    Still makes me laugh... Snarglies!

Although the thought of getting snipped may be
ideal... you might want to ask about the possible
problem of developing Primary Progressive Aphasia.
Trial studies show a link that vasectomies can bring
on the early onset of the dementia.. although if you
don't mind being batshit crazy (or crazier), it's all good.

On a checkup with my urologist after the orchiectomy
she had told me about it... so, the good thing is I'll only
be half as nuts (pun intended) as all you other poor
bastards. The doc said most men don't mind, since
it mostly affects the language centers of the brain and
many men by that point have never understood anything
their wives had said and their wives had long stopped
    listening anyhow.

What are you talking about? YOU'RE already batshit
crazy and didn't even have the balls to get snipped to
begin with but that's why we keep you around
    anyhow... for the entertainment factor.

As far as getting the procedure done.. which one will it be?
The cut, rip, snip, clip, staple and stitch or the 10 minute
scalpeless, bloodless, painless, sit on a bag of frozen peas
for a day with a handful of Vicodin, all good to go one?
(See Cherry, there IS a good use for frozen peas after all)

Friend of mine had the first one done... which probably wouldn't
have been so bad if the doc hadn't: first.. lost the vas and had to
go back in for it... second: hadn't broke the staple... third: made
the loud exclamation of "OH SHIT" in the process. Because really
THAT is the last thing you want to hear when anyone is doing anything
in that region. Even better... after having it done, his wife booted his
ass out and divorced him after 12 years.

I told the surgeon that did my orchiectomy that she should play
for the WNBA... cause she has some of the best ball handing
    skills I've ever known.

I believe I'm down for the second one, since they said if I do a light job, I can go back on the monday (operation on the friday), but since my job involves a lot of lifting, carrying and pushing, I've been advised to take the week off, and wear tight underwear for the first 3 days. (Nothing new there, then)

As for my wife getting "fixed", as she keeps refering to my procedure, she's been to the Family Planning Clinic, her previous doctor, and our present doctor. All have said she's too young. They also said she's too young to have Arthrytis, but what they don't take into consideration is the fact that she used to play Hockey, Ice Hockey, Figure Skating and Horse Riding (all of which are known for knee injuries, which can lead to complications in later life)

A bloke I used to work with had 3 yars of not sick before he had his Snarlies clipped, (I think he had the first procedure) then developed complications and spent 6 months in hospital having enemas every day. Prostate problems. Part of the reason I haven't got it done before. Had me a bit scared, since I tend to heal strangely. I never seem to heal the way normal people do.

I keep having this fucked up dream that wakes me up in a cold sweat. Its about this retarded talking chimp who wears expensive suits and becomes President of the United States. Its totally fucked up, he demolishes our foreign policy, civil liberties, and makes us the laughing stock of the western world and the biggest enemy of the eastern side. Whats more, he appoints the MOST INCOMPETENT people ANYWHERE for high ranking positions in our government...YET NEVER SEEMS TO GET CALLED ON IT. The people even re-elect him four years later!

    Wow, I hate that dream.

That could never *really* happen, right?
