The spider population is definitely different, from Michigan to Florida.Originally Posted by Black Spiral Dancer
My mother was raised in Michigan... so was my husband.
We used to visit Michigan almost ever summer growing up.
I lived there 6 mths after graduating high school. I can agree that spiders seem to be in much smaller quantities in the northern states than in the southern ones.
Theres a lot of everything in Florida... theres tons of wild life... thats what I loved most about it...
That, and the sunrise, and sunsets... with silhouettes of palm trees pressed against the dome of the sky.
Not much sky shows in the small view afforded by the hills.
Spiral Dancer... it looks almost a mixture of both.
I've seen a few of them in Ky, but they're mainly a Florida/Southern type climate something or other...
They always freaked me out because they look like a failed CLONING experiment.
i've seen those bugs before. cannot for the life of me remember thier name
They look..ew... juicy inside... the spider didnt want to part with it.... while I was taking pics... it would start to move away as I got close, then it would 'run' back to it.
its a mole cricket
Ahhh...
Thank you VERY much!!!!
I knew I had one somewhere with the orange hourglass.
orange yellow red or white i was taught to look for
Black Widows are black with a red hourglass, while the brown widow has an orange hourglass....
The brown recluse has a fiddle pattern on its head area.
not always on the black widow, more common yes, but like black foxes there are a few (oddly enough we have a family of black foxes near my home, they seem to be camera shy however but I've even cycled alongside one of the cubs)
my bad. confused with redback
No prob bob.
I'd like to see one of those too.
i didnt take this picture but i always thought it was pretty cool
I saw one of them one time, kinda like that, the babies were all over the mama, I got freaked out because my son was a baby and was crawling a few feet from the spider... (so I stepped on it... something I dont typically do.... live and let live ...) THE BABIES RAN EVERYWHERE!!! ALL OVER MY SHOE!!!
Thanks for posting that pic, its freaky, BUT LOVELY!
That Is One Em Effin Bad Ass Spider!

you love lizards long time?..well, i think that was a bit too much info, eh?
When I was 5 yrs old, I'd go up on the hill and catch gray swift lizards. AND while in Florida, I'd take pics of the Cuban Anoles.
when i was younger i would set lizards(or whatever you would call the things all around florida) on fire..Originally Posted by OrganizedKhaos

It'll take more than that to make me angry.
I was raised in the barbarian region of KY.
Fire is one of the most incredible things this world contains.
the juvenile aged black widow are said to be brown with the hourglass.
I've seen babies, with that look but they're so tiny they're hardly visible, by the time they get a bit bigger they start showing the black and red.
I've seen tons of all ages...
aXa You've really made this post worth while for me.
hehe, now if i could only find my biology of spider textbook:'( i misplaced it a few months after this past xmas.
Did you see the pic on the previous page of the hourglass on the brown widow, I found it, and esp posted it for you.

I am more than thrilled that you'd want to hold on to one of my images.
Solifugae just plain freak me out but yet fascinate me. so many dodgy bits about this.
i get bored on tinternet now and then and just spend hours reading o a subject
I feel like I used to see much better spider webs on the East Coast thank I do out here in the West.
