Hey a while back ,i had a S.S.I. hearing ,and this has been bothering me for some time ,,
do you think that the hearings judge for S.S. should ask you if you go to church and what religion you are? and how regular you go to church if you do?
me my self i was quite offended by him asking ,

Yes. Its for Aged, Blind, and Disabled persons w/ little or no income.

Know, that I know what SSI stands for, I would have to say what religion you follow or if you go to church has no bearing what-so-ever on your SSI status. It was improper to ask.

i can tell you that here in oregon the average person will have 7 ssi hearings before getting approved, they NEVER approve you on the first one.
Alot of times they ask you questions like that to probe your mental state. I always thought it was BS though ....i dont think it has any relevance

YA ,im a disabled Vet.i broke my back and fractured 2 vertebrae in my neck while in the service back when i was 20 yr's old >1980, and i keep workin till my Doctor's said if i keep working i was gonna make alot of the prob's i have worst.
i get V.A.benefits , but i was told when i whent into rehab in 2002 to reaplie for S.S.I. and ive been dealin with this crap ever since .

That's really weird. I was never asked that at my hearing, and, I believe, you have the right to refuse to answer that. It's definitely illegal for them to ask. Make sure that when either of your parents are eligible for SS benefits, you apply for childhood disability benefits. As long as you're unmarried and were disabled before the age of 22, you're eligible.
