WTF is going on with this thread?

(Yes, I go to Ren Faires...)

Although they do seem to get more and more commercial.
But it can still be fun just to go, hang out, drink, eat, chill...

Ex SCA, but still love the fairs. I'm smart enough not to buy the over priced trinkets and just make them myself.

I met my wife at a renn. fair.
Many of my friends work there and make the "over priced trinkets."

Don't be offended by my comments. I have a few friends who have booths there as well, and for the most part, the majority of the craftsmen/women charge a fair price for their items. But there are always the price gougers who make decent stuff at absorbant prices.
It becomes more obvious when two people at the same fair have similar items and the prices are so drastically different. I have even stopped vendoring there myself because of it. Sad but true.

No offence taken friend. I know you understand what goes into the products.

My wife makes stained glass. That takes a lot of time. Alot of the crafters there take alot of time to make their products. Glassworkers, metalsmiths, artists, weavers, potters, leathersmiths, etc.
If the crafters in the faire I know broke down their craft into per/hour pay, for most it would not be much more if even: minimum wage.
It's common for us to hear: "I could get this at wall-mart or the mall for half the price."
With so many countries making products for pennies per hour. Or big factorys that can produce similar products in a fraction of the time.
It's hard to be an artist anymore.

That said I do agree with you that the faire has some people that take things over the top. Esp. the ticket price is now as much as a concert ticket. The food price gets higher and higher. etc.

That's the problem... The faire is more about selling stuff to the tourists, than selling stuff to people who are into the faire. I agree that I much prefer an SCA war, because there are far fewer tourists. Remember, this is a Los Angeles faire, so there are a TON of orange county and other city idiots, running around in khakis and strollers, just looking at everything, and buying crap like mad... It's not the same vibe as a "real" faire or SCA event...

Hell yeah man, I must have missed that. Is that your site? It's funny we've been here so long but never stumbled upon this. I have some links to show you but don't want to put up here. I don't think the pm's are working. If they are I'll send them, otherwise does the contact on your site go to you?

My family and I went to the Maryland Ren. Faire this year and had a blast. We just got buzzed and walked around making fun of all the freakish white trash.

I hate those things. Just not my taste.
I think my friend ruined it for me, though. He was banging some broad that was way into those things... did all the reenacting and stuff. She quit doing that and started doing porn, as in mags and such. She did a spread dressed in her ren faire garb in some shit like "Afro Beaver Digest"... I saw it, and well... ruined for life. Haha... I just think about girls running around with absurdly hairy twats now at those things...
