Thank you for your appreciation. You're opinion means a lot to me Hely.
that tiny one is a crab spider. we get them here too. non venomous and feed of the smaller insects that go to a flower to polonate. so named a crab spider as they move side to side
It was tiny, the quality of the pic looks better when ya click on the link then click it again for full size.
Thank you for the info, they do look crabish.Originally Posted by Head Wreck
Thank you for taking the time to clear that up.
I've seen them different colors, but I wonder if this one's a young'un or if he has just got done moulting or something
Whacked - baked, sconed, skuntered, weeded out, stoned, muggled, hotted out, piped, coned out, bucketed, on the red-eye express, etc. etc. all euphamisms for "lickin Mary Jane's muff" hehe The thing is I was all of that when I posted and that pic is good to stare atOriginally Posted by OrganizedKhaos

Thats so kewl! I took some more spider pics yesterday... I'm editing and resizing...etc...
Cant wait to show them to you!
I want you all to see just how huge this black widow I found up on the hill ...... the abdomen and a couple of legs is all thats visible, but its EATING A CICADA... those things are a good couple of inches long.
Here's the male that I found in the female's nest WITH HER... but not "with her"
I JUST noticed that in the first pic, the MALE is assisting in devouring the cicada, he's at the bottom.
Here's a tunnel spider of some sort or another.
I have GOT to get a macro lens. (besides the one that comes equipt with the camera)
hmm me too. wanted to snap a zebra spider today (the weather is fine, they should be out hunting), but i forgot all i have are beaten up compact digitals to hand, and my pentax is out of film (lovely bit o kit, older than i am)
click on the horizontals to view them in a larger format
Oh I forgot ONE!!!
didnt know you had harvestmen out there
Which one are you referring to?
Probably this one...
We nickname them Daddy-Long-Legs over here.
BSD, did you see the black widows on the previous page?
I did. Pretty cool. Just a good thing you don't need to get too close with your camera.
Yes I do... I fell with my camera a couple of weeks ago.. and I cant zoom in, so yes, I was that close...
*grins*
my biggest fear with spiders is scaring them in some way or other. i dont want to spook them and have them panic. most spiders only bite people in defense(we dont exactly look like food to them).
im afraid of getting bit by a spider, but nt afraid of them. i am fascinated by them - both in awe and reverence. i respect them. my main fear is that i shall somehow offend a spider, resulting in a bite or bad luck. seeing a spider is a good omen for me. killing or hurting one is sinful. i venerate a spider spirit spiritually, and have at times thought of them as my shamanic totem animal.
but still, i get the willies when one expectantly runs across my skin. afterwards i try to make sure it is uninjured and then watch it for awhile.
I reverence all life.
I am always so careful even with plants.
Thank you aXa for sharing!
i revere most life forms. but i draw the line somewhere in the insect catagory. usually it has to do with how much of a pest they are. and how sentient they act(so-called 'social' insects are above the line). ants, especially the wood eating kind we get in my house, they die on sight. moths, may eat my clothes but are usually left alone or eaten by the cats. parasites i cant stand - im looking at you, mr tick and mosquito. lave my blood alone. its mine! all mine, mine mine! (i only share w those who ask.)
when my cats, the mighty hunters that they are, bring in a live animal, my policy is to catch and release them outside. usually rodents and the occasional snake. i use mostly glasses or other containers to trap them under. poor lil things are so scared. and often damaged. i have had to bury a few that didnt make it. and contemplated keeping a bone or too. but im not sure how keeping remains of once living creatures meshes with a reverence for nature/life. i think they are kool but creepy at the same time.
I really liked reading what you had to say....
I totally understand... there's a point where ...even a person's safety requires killing a bug or a rodent...
Where I live, its close to a creek, and a barn with horses... those horses eat grain....and grain attracts mice, and other unsavory bugs... that can potentially carry disease and other health hazards...
I DONT LIKE TO... but I will kill something if it means safety for my family.
BUT that doesnt mean that I dont respect their life...
I think you understand the fine line...
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE LINE " I ONLY SHARE WITH THOSE WHO ASK"!!!!!
You rawk!
I took this pic of a grandaddy long leg spider with my cam corder... in about 2002 or something, before I got my camera...
crikey..those are some long legged spiders..lol
those are amazing. I've had a love for spiders for a long time and you captured the spiders essence very well.
Thank you VT, and Tigerlily. I am so glad that you can enjoy. I love spiders, and any bug or living thing, I'm partial to some more than others I'd rather capture them with my camera than in my hands lol
Spiders on Dope
I found this picture a long time ago. I think it's pretty neat. Love the caffeine one!Just thought I'd share
clearing out the second driveway the other day i spotted a harvestman spider with a difference. it was harvestman in body style, but had short banded legs a bit thicker than normal and body markings like that of a garden spiders abdomen.
very very odd. just a shame, once again, no camera at hand as i was digging not really looking.
wish i had though. never seen one like that before
