well i just got older, quit drugs, educated myself and realized that laVey's "Satanic Bible" should be retitled "Nietzsche for dummies"

Really? Funny, he wasn't a big fan of Nietzsche. The Satanic Bible is a book of rituals and the guidelines around them. A starter on chaos magic.

Personally, that part of Satanism isn't the biggest for me. It's the ideal. Being who you are without limitations, being carnal. Some people understand it and live it, and become it without a change. It's not about converting yourself for a life change it's remaining who you are... self preservation.

All and all we have our opinions. Some more educated than others and some more close minded than others. That comes with the territory.

Fortunately, Anton was smart enough to indulge and not die of syphilis unlike Nietzsche. what a horrible way to die.

"Nietzsche for Dummies" better go copyright that before some one steals that brilliant idea from ya. They already have a "Philosophy for Dummies"...

Well keep in mind their is a general animosity and hatred for Nietzsche like their is about all philosophers in some circles. One common complaint about such men is that they spend more time thinking then actually doing so it's often been seen as a proffession of those from the idle class or men who can simply afford not to work.

However Nietzche is at times thought of as a rather weak man both in his body of work and those who choose to live by it. I personally never quite agreed with that sentiment but I can see where it would stem from. The idea of glorifying the individual or thinking one is better than those around them can have a detrimental effect in some situations. Some would also argue such philosophy is simply not practicle in a modern society...how truthful THAT Is seems to depend on what part of the society you are a part of.

And don't forget the themes of individuality and responsibility for your own destiny and thinking for yourself and being true to yourself being virtues and stupidity and conformity and herd mentality being sins. That is all part of the Blue Blood philosophy and probably why we have such a significant Satanist membership.

He seemed to believe in being an elitist asshole towards others, instead of holding himself to elitist standards like the LaVey philosophy illustrates. That is one of the reasons he came accross as a weaker man. That is how I see some of the difference anyway. As far as the clipping above, I thought it was funny, even though the photoshop could have been a little better.

I'm something of an amateur Nietzsche scholar (no tenure in other words) --it's really almost impossible to pin him down on any issue..if you read his work in entirety--but he wrote a lot on character, etc..
but yes many of his writings come across as hyperbolic and 'mock heroic'

Yeah, that is another area where I kinda respect LaVey. He did mean a lot of what he said quite seriously, and yet he also made it clear that one should not take themselves too seriously. I've always thought that was an interesting dynamic.
