I am thinking about boycotting in memory of Douglas Adams. Has anyone here seen it? Would anyone who has seen it recommend that anyone else who loved the books see it?

I heard it was really good and stayed true to the book but ive only seen the old movie which was pretty lame.
there was another movie version?
Seen the TV series, read the books, heard the original radio play... ol' Doug had trouble following his OWN stories.
yeah i think it was made for TV i have it on VHS somewhere.Originally Posted by Azekiel

probally won't see the movie it tends to to ruin the book for me,as all book-to- movies..........
I don't think there's much point to boycotting it in memory of Douglas Adams because he did co-write the screenplay. This was being worked on for a few years before he died, with him and a few colleagues. I saw the movie, am an avid fan of the books, and the movie did not ruin the books for me at all. It takes some of the best aspects of the books and brings them out, with a few surprises, but the changes all seem to work. Even the title sequence cracked me and my friends up, and the selections from the actual guide itself are done very well (we thought it would be hard to put those on the screen). Overall, I recommend it highly.
remember the books came out after the tv shows. I thought it was pretty funny and thought it was in the spirit of the tv shows. I love British humor and the fact that they make a joke out of the meaning of life. I would recommend seeing it.Originally Posted by mollycase
I guess you could boycott it, but seeing as he was extremely involved in developing the film up until his death....
We just got back from it. Pretty good -- a lot of the feel of the BBC series, but of course compressed for time and with much better FX. It's certainly not been Hollywood-ized too much.
I belive if I read correctly, they used the same robot to design Marvin as was used in the BBC version.
And agreed, it was exellent. Particularly if your a fan of the books.
I'll have to go see it I loved the book. I was afraid it would be a total bomb but seeing how other fans think they kept it true, I'll give it a try.
now if only I could find my map to the theatre at the edge of our known world I'd be ok
I liked it! My fiance hated it.
Ah, well.
You know that part of where they talk about the whale and the bowl of petunias? Its almost exactly the same. If i remember right, the whale never named his "stomach".
I went to see it recently, and it kicked ass.
damn guys, i honestly can't remember the last time i went out and saw a movie........damn probally over a year.....i think....
that's kinda pathetic,haha......
I saw it earlier this week, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was expecting some cheesey American knockoff of the old BBC series, but it was actually a very good movie. Solid 8/10 here.
I really think the new movie gave homage to the book. Just remember that the movie has to appeal to the masses, not JUST the geek fans. Still, it was true to the story and I was impressed
