Default Today is a dark day...

Robert DeNiro has done an american express commercial.

I can understand why and I don't fault him but it's still a dark moment when you watch an artist have to pimp something that harms the world. Guess sponsorship for the Tribeca Film Festival has its price.

    personally i couldn't care less,
you gotta wonder where the bizarre notion that Robert DeNiro is an expert actor really comes from.
Wow, he was in taxi driver....he's clearly mediocre....the more american express ads he does the better.....he never should have been an actor in the first place since he only has the capacity for about 3 facial expresions.......and whats with all this comedy he's being doing recently?....it sucks...he pimped the system too

That is odd that he would have to do that. I guess it gets to the point where it's all about money. I personally ADORE Robert DeNiro, but I don't like a lot of his films lately. Love Taxi Driver and Goodfellas and Raging Bull, all the Scorcese stuff is brilliant. Casino... I think the combination of DeNiro and Scorcese is the magic. Even when Scorceses works with other actors it is just not the same.

my point. DeNiro can be a gangster/hard man, but he has sincere difficulty being anything else, thats what a good actor can do, be versatile.

Personally I find Al Pacino much more charismatic & better at his job.

But he's open to the same criticism really. I like the way he stayed out of the limelight for all those years though.

What makes him so great is that in those roles he manages to keep the humanity of such men in tact...something few are able to do. Plus he has done other very interesting roles in....

    The King of Comedy
    New York, New York
    The Deer Hunter
    Brazil
    The Mission
    Angel Heart...best devil ever.
    Midnight Run
    Awakenings
    Cape Fear
    This Boys Life
    The Fan
    Sleepers
    Men of Honor

Some could be considered roles as "hard" men...but at least for me they've always been real men...It's what I love about him, he plays a character like a man is...not like women or our overly femanine society would like them to be. For me none have come close to portraying the male mind and psychology like De Niro has...at least not since Brando in his prime.

never really thought about that, I guess he does play that roll particularly well, I just get tired of seeing that same roll in every film.

Yeah, DeNiro's not ever going to shave his chest

I'll be the first to admit though that since the new millenium he's been a bit off his game in terms of choosing roles. Though I think it has more to do with keeping the Tribeca Film Festival funded than his inability to find good roles. I'd like to see him work with new directors though and even do TV though I know he refuses to I think HBO and the stuff they do would fit him well. I don't mean The Soprano's mind you but stuff liek Carnivale' or their HBO movies like Conspiracy (granted it was a remake but quite a good one)...things like that.

Cause as much as I hate TV at times it really is the breeding ground for new stuff with HBO and Fox's FX lineup. I wish film took as many chances as they do.

I'd rather see a well made Amex shot with DeNiro than a badly made, Japanese crap-drink advert with Schwarzenegger. Many, many big name US actors and actresses make adverts for the most unusual products on the understanding that they won't be screened in the States.

Yeah that's pretty well known...though I disagree that they are crap. The Nick Cage pachinko commercial is fucking amazing in it's insanity.

Plus It's Japan...commercials and celebs go hand in hand so it'd be odd NOT to see big names hock stuff there.

Not all commercials are crap, but this one with Schwarzenegger, where he comes shooting out of a can of fizzy drink, is.

You really gotta see the Nic Cage pachinko commerical then...it's muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch more insane than the governator popping out of a drink...it's quite creepy and very Nic Cage like.

i have a couple of brief Japanese videos - culled from places like Stileproject - that would make you think twice about emulating the Japanese. in anything.

I'm only likely to catch it if it gets posted on the web somewhere, as I have little interest in tv.
