    Default Louisiana, never come here

    At least, not VP.

Well, I was sitting here at my lovely little school like I do everyday, when I overheard two girls talking about how they couldnt get on the syatp site. The site is for a religious even that is held here every year. But the site was blocked for "religious opinions". That is the cateogory at least.

Well, this made me decide to go searching. And pretty much, now you cannot look up any religions, etc. So I decided to email the head cheese guy about it. *sighs* what a waste of breath.

    Subject: Why?

Well, there is a link that said to submit site for veiw click here. So I clicked and got this email address and thought I would give it a shot.

I was trying to check out religioustolerance.org, which didnt seem like a site that should be blocked to me.

So, the issue I would like to address is more out of sheer curiosity, than anything else. It somewhat bothers me a bit I suppose that a decent majority (only the ones I looked up, which wasnt a WHOLE lot) of sites with religious content were blocked. Now, I can slightly understand why they are blocked to a degree. But the thing that bothers me is at times, I believe it is good for childrent to be knowledgeable of religions, that are not their own. Blocking them from being able to read these items is in my opionion somewhat taking away from their education. Now, I have not checked out every site out there and I know there are others sites such as Wikipedia, etc. that you can go to and read up on them. But I feel like "Religious Opinion" is not a very good motive for blocking a site. But I just wanted to know if there were more to it. Or hear the arguement for doing this really.

    Sincerely,

    KM

therefore all are blocked. not just a particular religion.

    thanks for the question.

So again, I try. Thinking, maybe he is an understanding guy. Maybe he will listen.

I can understand that reason. There are topics that fall under religion that I know some parents do not wish for their children to see (I do not agree, but I do understand).Yes, I understood that it was not any particular religion that was blocked, and I believe that it was handled in the correct way.

But there is a bit of problem here, well at least that I see. Some kids have classes in which they may need to look up one of the topics that are blocked. I myself, have not had any classes yet that I have ran into a problem with but what happens when a child does?

I'm sorry if I am being a bother, but I am just a bit worried I guess.

    Sincerely,

    KM
Now, here comes the greatest part.

His reply was the most "I really dont care" answer I've ever gotten.
we cross those bridges one at time.

I've forwarded the messages to a teacher of mine, and I am hoping he will help me. But I am downright mad about this. They are censoring us from learning just cause some dumbfuck overprotective parent out there doesnt want his/her little baby to live in the god damn real world.

Appreciate your situation and all, but I'd think twice about quoting emails containing other people's real names, email addresses and phone numbers on a public forum - especially people whose role in life is to control your web access. If I were you I'd be editing that post before someone edits you out of school for the semester.

Regarding your actual point, it's a situation you have to live with when the same policy is applied to a range of people - what you think is your right to view, others think should be banned and vice versa. Either you all get a little restricted, or someone has to fork out the cash for the IT department to construct student-specific firewall settings. Like that's doing to happen in a building funded by taxes.

All lousiana isnt bad.Ive been there multiple times and have had a blast each time. Went down for Endless Night Halloween 2004, then went to help with Katrina relief (but got diverted to Lake Charles and spent a week at a casino/hotel for my birthday instead), and went back in April for Convergence 12.

It's a southern state, where Christianity rules over others. Yet New Orleans is the voodoo captial of the world. Crazy huh

I'd rater deal with religious nutters than wolf spiders (full story later). I love how the asker of the questions formed full formal letters signed witha full name and the responses were like instant message notes signed with initials. Here's what you do, access the internet from somwhere other than school. Just saying.

yeah thats kind of lame when they do blanket bans like that, but you should really get those phone numbers and e-mail adressed removed, thats kinda bad.

I know when I am away from school I type like a 12 year old, but not when I am emailing somoene I do not know. This guy types like me when I am not at school. I did find that rather amusing. A teacher of mine told me he was a real . . . . erm acehole, and not a people person at all though so his responses make more sense to me I guess.

But yeah, I do access the internet at my home. It's just I know there are kids in my school who do not have a computer or the internet at home and they have to rely on school. Or like me, they have it at home but it is incredibly slow at home. I cant help it. I'm a worry wart haha. Cause I'm usually that kid who is just well, screwed haha.
Teachers arent very happy about this either. Because its blocking anything to do with religion. Christianity or Hinduism. Doesnt matter, they cannot be biased. So I'm guessing it could either turn into a pretty big issue if there are enough complaints or just blow over and everyone accept it. Only time will tell really.

and yeah, I really want to take that out. I didnt even realize that was there until it was too late. The phone number was in it two times and I didnt catch it. I took it out once. But now appearantly I cannot edit it so um blarg.

Yeah, You know all the years I've lived here I have never been to New Orleans. Since we live so close to Texas (seriously like an hour away). Vernon Parish is just . . . ah, its sad.
