Naomi Wolf was on The Colbert Report last night talking about her book, The End of America, A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot, which outlines ten steps that "fascist, totalitarian, and other repressive leaders [employ to] seize and maintain power, especially in what were once democracies.”
1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

I think they redefined it. Treasonous dissent is too romantic, so dissent equals terrorism now. Check.

by that definition there has never been a fascist state, because all of them still had laws. how could you have a fascist state with no laws? then people would be able to do whatever they wanted to, not what the state tells them to do.

I don't really like that video because it's a like "hey, kids, get all your conspiracy theories neatly wrapped up in one video!" I can respect the people that made the video, because they put in the research for it, but for the lazy people that get their ideas from watching it, I don't really want to be associated with them.

when I saw it I said, yeah? so what? I already knew about all this stuff years ago. I know you have to start somewhere, and people don't just know this stuff because obviously you won't hear it in school and on CNN, but I guess I just feel like anyone who is really interested in it should know it by now because they would have put in the effort to look into it, and anyone who hasn't must not really care all that much.

Now I've known a few people that really were clueless and they never heard any alternative POV's until they saw videos like this, and now they consider themselves champions for the radical cause. But there is an underlying problem here because now those people believe that the only alternative radical thinking comes from video projects like this, so they don't put in the effort to really think for themselves and they believe everything that they hear from people who claim to be "anti-government" when some of those people are just as bad or worse then what we have and they just want to put themselves in power.

I always say to all these "9/11 truthers" have you ever considered that maybe the conspiracy was propagated BY the government as just another means of disinformation?

they used to say "never trust anyone over 30". But if you still think that way once you hit 30 your motto will be "never trust anyone. ever. and especially don't trust the people that are trying to get you to believe what they say."

If you are right, then you will be content in that knowledge and you won't have to try and convince everyone else of the fact to validate it.

I know that i'm ranting here, but ron paul is not revolutionary. saying that we should be able to choose from A,B and C instead of just A and B ( or just A) is not revolutionary. that's just liberal. Real revolution would be choosing A, B, C, X and Purple, not to mention None of the above.
