Default Out of sight out of mind?

There's a new law in Canada now that cigarettes must no longer be on display. Walk into any variety store (in most provinces) and there behind the cashier is a big wall of..well..hidden smokes. This is supposed to deter young people from smoking. Out of sight out of mind right?
What do you think? Could this work?

Yet another pointless law In The Great Guise Of Solving Some Great Evil.

    Canada's good at those.
    Witness their anti-motorcycle laws.

I think the best way to stop smoking would be to execute everyone who smokes cigarettes.

Really, you should be able to do whatever you want to in your own home with consenting adults that doesn't put other people at risk.

But since I can't smoke peyote and run around naked in times square, you probably shouldn't be alllowed to smoke cancer sticks either. seems fair.

Smokers act like everything should revolve around them. It's a privaledge not a right. Do what you want, but other people don't have to be subjected to it.
