Default Do you think online journaling is a passing fad?

Do you think online blogging is a passing fad? People have kept some sort of diary since man started scratching on cave walls, but the character of online journals seems to have moved away from the usual intent of a journal and into a weird land that has an entirely different feel and I think does not satisfy the same human needs. Do you think keeping a blog online will sort of go out of style or do you think certain things about doing so will change, but it will continue. If so, what things do you think will change?

I dont think it will fade...At least not in all of the different circles of people..Some people who read others Journals have the desire to emerse themselves into another life...Either to escape their own existance or to simply see what it is like being someone else for a little bit...Sort of like a day dream that someone else is authoring for you....

I sometimes wonder myself what it must be like to be other ppl...But then I find myself here in my little existance...And I am happy...

So no I dont think that Blogs will fade they will stay alive for that among other reasons....

It seems to me that whenever someone, on a website, updates a page with ideas, though, events, etc., they are keeping a diary, log or journal. I think they fade in people's minds, but for writers who just have to write, it will perpetuate itself one way or another. I had a friend who used to say she had to write, it was how her soul would take a much needed crap (I apologize for the Middle School vulgarity).

Do you think people will separate out and have individual sites with just their own personal blog on them or do you think there will just be more journaling sites with different themes and environments for different sorts of people to keep journals in or do you think it will thin out to just one or two sites where everyone who keeps a diary will have theirs?

I see it breaking up into demographic groups...Not to go as far as like by race...but I see it splitting up into different circles of people...Ex: Political, Religious, Lifestyles...Etc...

Which is not a bad idea to have like minded people all grouped to certain cites...

    What do you think?

They are pretty boring these days to be honest...I think the fad of it is falling away. I don't think they'll vanish but I do see them losing their purpose for many.

Plus how many (insert trendy writer here) clones do we need anyhow? Half the time it's usually the same crap anyhow.

I went to this club and got drunk then puked had an epiphany about life, love, death and fucked my current partner...or the always favourite my life sucks rant.

They need to have more of a purpose and use...though I do read a few cause they fill my Arron Spelling need.

    Its not a fad.

And I think that specific communities will always exist, too.

Networking of journals/blogs and finding like-minded people is one of great gifts of the net (like connecting people with their porn fetishes)

I think that with toolks like MT offering an XML feed, there will be technologies (like Safari andf Kinja) that will provide LJ like tools for ANY site you like to read.
