If you're a reader... than you have to check out The Death and Life of Bobby Z !!!!
Its awesome.
William Gibson
Books, check 'em out. You can read about stars and cars, and electric guitars, and cops that work hard patrolling the boulevard, and those heavy-weight champs that you're crazy about. Books, check 'em out - at your local library.
This message brought to you by the California Raisins.
Right now I'm reading a book about theoretical physics and Dante (those are two different books, BTW.) and I got a couple other one's on the backburner.
Anyone read any Douglas Preston detective stories? A friend highly recommended him to me.
Check out New York Triology by Paul Auster if you haven't yet. Great detective novels.
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown-just finished it today.
Curretly reading the real bio of Bettie Page-very interesting, I am zooming through it!

I'd read anything he wrote even if it was a list of ingredients on the shampoo bottle....Oh, surely I jest...
But he has such a cinematic pacing to his writing.... and I've had to have read his book 4-5 times.
Its exciting every time read it..
Thank you for the recommendation Amelia... I'll be sure to check something else by him.
He has an erotica section huh?
I know there were some very decent steamy scenes, of beautiful description in the Bobby Z book.
Valencia is a damn good book. Also check out the Rent Girl.
Thanks guys, you're awesome. I will check these out for sure.
I'm a HUGE Irvine Welsh fan so if you haven't read his stuff before, now's the time to start. You will not be disappointed!
The book called Why the Tree Loves the Axe is very interesting. Cant remember the author.
i would recommend anything by Matthew Reilly (extremely high paced action that i will start and then not put down until i realise im dizzy from holding my breath), Raymond E Feist (an incredibly in depth fantasy writer that really drags you in), or David Eddings (another fantasy writer who has the greatest, most believable and likeable characters ever). idfd your after specific books, i would suggest starting with Ice Station by Reilly, Magician by Feist, and The Redemption Of Althalus by Eddings to get familiar with them.
also, Fallen Dragon is a really awesome book by Peter F Hamilton (i think) that i highly recommend. i was never really able to get into any of his other stories though. very scientific, character driven science fiction with a great amount of action and mystery to keep you interested if that doesnt float your boat.
finally, if you havent read Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, go get it. ignore all my other suggestions, go to your local library, AND BORROW IT NOW.
Sometimes when I'm reading a book, esp from a well known writer, that pumps out a book every yr or two.... and I can recognize WHY they're successful....
BUT WHAT PISSES ME OFF... is the 'button pushing'
Adding stuff SOLEY for an emotional reaction.... NOT simply from inspiration.
The Big Sleep
I cant remember the artist right now but if you can get that one... its so so so badass.
I'm going to suggest the same thing I always do. "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis
That's the point, Writer looks for anything that will keep readers concentration. And trust me, they like when they know that people are emotionally affected by their writings. It gives them feeling of control over human emotions and it's their own favorite part.Originally Posted by OrganizedKhaos
Anything by Scott Westerfeld, espicall the Midnighters Trilogy The Uglies series Peeps and The last Days.
The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, Decipher and Gene by Stel Pavlou, any Matthew Reily books and Flesh and Blood I think It was written by Graham Masters.
At the moment Im reading Maximum Ride : The Angel Experiment, Invasion! First Strike, White Chapel Gods and I am about to start World War 2.1.
I start a book, get bored, start another, get bored and end up reading half a dozen books at a time.
Thats why I USUALLY like a person's FIRST book they put out... its usually spewed via inspiration.Originally Posted by OliX
Thank you for noticing what I said and relating.
I enjoy a plusibe story line, Matthew reilys books have the characters doing amazing things, but he tries to make it possible, and Peeps and The Last Days are both viable situations, Vampire/Zombie making Parasites.
Ya, I do that as well.Originally Posted by Dusk

No doubt. There's so much craziness going on around me right now I've barely had the time to just sit and read. Perhaps this weekend instead of drinking and getting myself in trouble I'll make some time. Meh..who am I kidding?
Yeah, just drink and read
Totally!
Espicall picture books, the ones that pop up with the 3d picture
Any reading suggestions of such books?
Look in the little kids section at your local library.
Any pop up book is awesome after 8 or 9 shots of absinth, but do it at home, not in the library.
Never done absinthe... I'm not against it. I'd try it.
It tastes like black licorice, but after the first couple shot you have no taste buds left so I dosent really matter
Absinthe in itself is an event. I like alot. Just very expensive to import.
Some books I've read in the last month or so that were good
The Road by Cormac MCarthy (actually this was EXCELLENT)
The Revenge of Gaia by James Lovelock
Ultra Fuckers By Carlton Mellic III (and not just because I did the cover)
Lords Of Chaos by Michael Moynihan
Personally I think it's over rated, mostly because it's so difficult to get in the states. People want what they can't have...even though good liquor stores are now stocking it in the US. If you like licorice/anise flavor save your cash and get Jager.Originally Posted by OrganizedKhaos
Or better yet, my personal fave is Chartreuse.
I dont drink much, but it was the only thing i tried that I liked, but by boss said hee would get me a bottle of scotch for my 18th.
Marilyn Manson has his own absinthe. It's called...Mansinthe.
Look up the interveiw of Manson on the Late Show with David Letterman, if heaps funny.
I know, I saw it when it aired. It was a little awkward no?
very odd. just the other day, saturday, we were talking about absinthe and indeed manson came up as well.
I've been having all these bizare future predictions for compltely trival things.
there a few that I have read or just got through read that are wonderful. If you like
History as I do you will enjoy them..
The Crusades and their im[act on todays world
Arab historians of the crusades
Land beyond the river
Byazantium
Teutonic Knights
Patrick J Buchanan: Death of the West which i am reading now...
The Axis of Time trilogy by John Birmingham
A US-led task force off Indonesia in 2021 finds itself sent back to 1942, just prior to the Battle of Midway. The novels deal with a rapidly altered version of World War II, and to a lesser extent the social changes that result amongst the Allied powers.
* World War 2.1: Weapons of Choice (2004)
* World War 2.2: Designated Targets (2005)
