Default Microsoft Buys Natural-Language Search Tech

Flash, software, Adobe, Google, Yahoo, search engine, Web, Macromedia, photos, animationIf you're trawling the Web to buy a pair of Nikes, shop for a Volkswagen, or get a glimpse of Walt Disney's Wall-E, chances are you'll end up viewing graphics built with Adobe Systems' Flash software. Good luck finding them with a search engine, though. Turns out Google and other Web-search tools can't easily recognize pages laden with Flash-created images.

Sheesh... and to think all this time I thought you didn't care. That is quite a lot of caring for you seeing as you are most likely neither an animal nor a vegetable.

Anyway, just quickly now that I'm here... what you can do is:

    - First, have alternative HTML content on your web page that is indexed by search engines. This alt content should have the same basic information that is in any Flash movie you might like to use. Googlebots or whatever is indexing will see this content.
    - Then, for those with the Flash plug-in in their browser, you plonk a flash movie over the top of it using JavaScript to replace the alternative HTML so all they will see is the Flash.
    - No Flash plug-in? Javascript disabled in your browser? Well you will still see the HTML.
    - The best way is to manage the actual content external to the movie, say in a database or XML somewhere, and then you can dynamically set the content for both the HTML and the Flash from the one source.

And thanks to http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/ it's not all that hard to implement. Your search engine ranking can be cool. It's not new. So... where have you been Mr/Ms TrunberSpam?
