Is it better to mean well and do badly, or mean badly and do well?
Is it better to mean well and do badly, or mean badly and do well?
Depends:
if you're dealing with a man, the latter.
If you're dealing with a woman, you're fucked either way.
Hoho!! >clink<
Both involves dishonesty so both are bad but if I had to chose then I will chose second one.
Explain mean badly and do well? Is that mean to do bad but screw up so much that it ends up good? Or does that mean you did a really good job of being bad?
Sure.
There's no dishonesty in the first one: to have good intentions but not be very good at them. And there could be dishonesty in the second one, but doesn't have to be. I could say "I will destroy you." and then destroy you. That's prety honest, but not necessarily the best of intentions depending upon why I feel the need to destroy you.Originally Posted by OliX

I'd go with the first one.
circumstantially, good is going to be better than ill and by and large people's actions will match thier intentions. It is far more likely that people meaning well will achieve good results on purpose, than for people who mean harm to achieve good results by accident. So it's still a better compromise in the long run for people to try and do the right thing, even though they might screw up sometimes.
that is, however, from the viewpoint of causality.
If we are going to go purely hypothetical and say this question is of absolutes, with no variables and only those results.. then i'd have to say the second one. if there is no relationship between cause and effect, there is only effect, and so cause is irrevelent.
the situation still dictates that it's better to follow the course of action leading to the greater good.

Depends which is more beneficial. ^^
The first. If you mean well then the sentiment is still there even if you fuck up
I will excuse a lot of suckiness if I truly believe someone's intentions are good.
If someone's intentions are bad, it won't make me think better of them that whatever they did accidentally turned out to be beneficial for me.
Exactly.
Either way the second option makes you a bitch, if you mean harm but do well as in succeding then you hurt someone, but if you do well as in do some thing good then the bad intentions where still there.
Well, the flower child in me says the 1st...but the evil in me says the 2nd. I am at constant odds with myself...damn..
I think that with billions of people in the world if everyone does what they're good at then all intentions will balance out ...............as they should
Now that Ubiquitress is here I should prbably let ya know that this is a thread she would probably have put on if she was here then. Maybe. It was a quote of hers in context of a conversation a couple of weeks ago that I thought was brilliant so I posted it to see what would happen.
thank you ,this was my intention behind the phrase in the first place.as there really isnt a true good or bad only actions and the intentions behind them in the context of a situation.both must exist or neither exists.Originally Posted by Mr Karl
