Without recording, it will die. people rarely go to shows to see bands they don't know, and who has time to tour when you have to have a day job to support yourself? It shouldn't be about money, but without album sales you would never have heard you favorite bands apart from local ones. Well, maybe you would if you spent a lot of time online looking around. Besides, there's an art that goes into the production of an entire album. You lose that when you download a song.
