Default Someone explain this to me...

How come Britney Spears has better "Venom" effects in her Womanizer video than Venom had in Spider-Man 3?

Sign of a cruel and wrathful deity who is very disappointed in all of us? Sign that the third sequel in most anything is beating a dead arachnid?

It hasn't been announced officially that there even will be another one. But of course since it made more money than any other flick fucking ever of course there will be. And my bet is that the same cast and crew will be involved. They've got such a winning combination that it would be foolish to try to change it.

You mean the part when he became "cool" and instead just REALLY looked like a douche? I don't know what Sam Raimi was thinking.

Well, it's not like he's in a million other flicks right now so I'm sure he'll be enticed to do another one.

Ahhh...You know for the right amount of money, he'll do it.

I'm pretty excited about him in the new Terminator flick. I forgot that was being made.

Wouldn't that make a record for the first actor to play Batman in more than 2 movies? According to history, now it'll be a really sucky guy for the role, like... worse than Clooney.

Shit, why was I thinking he was the original movie Batman? My bad. He was still better than Clooney though.

I'm gonna guess it's because she's likely to SNAP again at any given moment and the people who did the effects for her videos didn't want her to bust in and shave their heads?

Britney's videos are known for big CG budgets (after all, they need it) but there's nothing in Womanizer you couldn't do on a home PC with a few grands worth of software. A lot of it is just color keyed footage rammed through After Effects.

The first time a director asks for an effect, it usually turns out pretty crap, as there's no prior benchmark - anything the director is shown in rushes tends to impress them, and the less work you do, the more time you have for playing WoW. Imageworks wrote most of the Venom CG from scratch, but given the amount of footage involved, most motion picture effects are a compromise of quality vs. the lovely term "boneability" - how easy the effect is animate against live footage without frame-by-frame painting.

If something only appears for a second, it's far easier to paint it as you only have 25 frames to touch, so you can do a lot better visually with less effort (some stuff is literally drawn frame-by-frame in Photoshop); plus as soon as someone invents an effect, there are hundreds of us thinking of ways to improve it or make it cheaper. The CG for a movie is pretty much obsolete by the time it hits theaters.

I can really see using this measure for a lot of the people I know.

Haha, wow. I didn't expect anyone to actually explain it. My degree in Computer Animation had pretty much taken care of that already. But thanks for the effort, thread jacker!

Its box office was totally eclipsed by "Mamma Mia", which made more money.

Spider-Man 3: $890,871,626 box office, $121 million in DVD sales.
Mamma Mia!: $572,225,617 box office, as for DVD:

Mamma Mia! was released in Australia and New Zealand on DVD on November 6, 2008, and was released on Blu-ray on December 3. It was released on both DVD and Blu-ray in the UK and Norway on November 24 and November 26 respectively. It was released in US on December 16.

On November 24th, Mamma Mia! became the fastest-selling DVD of all time in the UK, according to Official UK Charts Company figures. It sold 1,669,084 copies on its first day of release, breaking the previous record held by Titanic by 560,000 copies. By the end of 2008, The Official UK Charts Company declared it had become the biggest selling DVD ever in the UK, with one in every four households owning a copy (over 5 million copies sold) [35]. The record was previously held by Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl with sales of 4.7 million copies.

On November 26th 2008, Mamma Mia! became the best-selling DVD in Finland, by selling 110,000 copies and is the first DVD to earn a platinum award in that country. In the United States the DVD made over $30 million on its first day of release.[36]

The DVD was released as a single-disc edition and a two-disc special edition.

    ----------------

Oh! and SM3 cost over a quarter billion to make, and Mamma Mia cost.... Budget $52 million

Counting the stage show, which has earned, wait for it, $2 BILLION.....

Mamma Mia knocks the balls off SM3.

I'm not HAPPY about this, of course, Mamma Mia is a pile of shit, but hey.
