Reminds me of a Christian who once confessed that he held his faith because it made him feel better than other people.

You can most surely hate a religion without believing in their creed. Christianity obviously does exist just as manifestly as their 'God' doesn't. I'd have to go against the old cliche that the Bible's 'full of great stories'. Obviously, some of it depends upon the translation, but as a whole it's a pretty slipshod effort. If it really is the literal word of God, he shouldn't give up his day job to become a full time novelist. Compared to, say the Norse myths, Greek legends, or even Gilgamesh, the Bible's a pretty crappy piece of work. Revelations is kind of trippy though I guess.



Why should Brightstar hate God, if he's the compassionate deity of the New Testament? Are you more of an Old Testament kind of guy?

For what it's worth, Jane Austen really irritates me in the literary department.

Not my point at all. What I'm saying is that everybody and their brother preaches tolerance and unity but it's perfectly ok to shit on God anytime we feel like it. I find that people are usually mad at the way someone who claimed to be a christian or "God person" treated them in the past, not God himself. Even if that's how some quote "Christians" act, does it make it right to be just as intolerant of their beliefs? I don't hear anyone saying "Fuck Allah, I hate him" over the way certain radical muslims act. It's the same thing. Blame the idiots that don't understand the god they follow, not the god himself.
I try to be very tolerant of other peoples beliefs, or lack of and alot of times just choose to say nothing when someone says something I don't agree with. Sometimes I just get pissed off that no one seems to think I deserve to have the courtesy returned because I believe in God. (breath)
And to Brightstar, no hard feelings. All I would say is, seek emotional healing and closure of somekind instead of constantly searching for someone to blame. If you don't find that peace in God, find it in SOMETHING. I think you'll find that life is much more enjoyable that way.

I agree that people should not slam people for their beliefs, whatever they are.

But the fact is, people who have religion, tend to force it on other people.
They are not quite as bad now, but look at the past history.
Look at all the wars over religion. Even the current one...
And all the Christians destroying native cultures,
the inquisition, etc, etc... The church only just now
appologized for their "sins" of the inquisition. So
they now can acknowledge that they sinfully
tortured, burned, and killed, tons of people...
So they are now saying their behaviors were
wrong. So people make mistakes. Ok, well,
maybe they are making mistakes now too....

Christians and Muslims tend to be *very* intollerant.
Maybe the new batch are better.
Maybe they can keep it to themselves.
But if they keep shoving their morality on people,
people like me, and a lot of the people out there,
are going to shove back...

That's what you are doing.
Standing up for your right to believe what you want to believe.
That's fine. That's cool. Believe in god, believe in the bible...
I'm cool with all of that. But don't expect people not to defend
their feelings about the lame behaviors of a lot of Christians and Muslims, etc...

As the bumper sticker says:

"God, save me from your followers..."

I have no problem with god, or people's belief in god.

I just want them to keep their beliefs to themselves.

I'm not going to go around telling Christians to look at porn,
or to worship satan, etc... If they are happy doing what they
want to do, then cool. I am fine with them living good,
sinless, happy lives. But don't bug people when they
go to get an abortion. If you don't believe in it, then
you don't have to get one. But let other people do
what they want to do. Leave people alone. Do not
force morality on people who do not believe in
the same rules and morality as you do. That is
the key problem with most Christians. It is not
their beliefs. It is the fact that they try to force
them on other people...

That's a big chunk of the written word...one that changes with each passing generation. You're leaving yourself in the dark...actually no you're taking sharp overgrown finger nails and pulling out your eyes then devouring them as you bake in the unrelenting heat of a no name desert.

Doh! I was answering his question of if he could use magazines for some type of book he hated.
