Have you read any Baudelaire? Fuck I'm tired I might have spelled that wrong. If you like Dante you'd probably like him too.

Bukowski is cool for "alternate viewpoint" stuff.
    Palahniuk is really interesting.

I tend to read just fantasy junk though.
Rice, Eddings, Jordan, Goodkind, Whyte, etc...

    HP Lovecraft...

Well since I love you in a biblical sense Nudie, thought I would throw my list into the ring. And plus...well I LOVE to read and acquire books. There are so many more than this. This is just what I can remember off the top of my dome.

I haven't read any Jory Graham but now that you mention her, I will see if I can find her. I have read Robert Pinsky before. I honestly can't remember if it was in an anthology or not. Thanks for the recommends though, always looking for new stuff. I used to do poetry performance and was thinking of getting back into it. New material, always good.

Vonnegut is on my list and highly recommended by friends, but I haven't gotten around to him yet.

    My faves:

    Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima
    Spadework by Timothy Findley
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
    Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (although American Gods kicks a substantial amount of ass as well imho)
The Eagle's Gift by Carlos Castaneda

and innumerable nonfiction titles dealing with eastern philosophy & art.

If you haven't read any of Neal Stephenson's books (Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon, etc.), check them out, he's great.

SHIT! I forgot Vonnegut on my list!

Vonnegut rules! I have all his books.
Some are better than others, but if you have never read any of his stuff,
I would suggest "Breakfast of Champions" as your introduction...

    hmmm *ponders*
interview with the vampire, the vampire lestat, queen of the damned, the vampire armand, blood and gold..all by anne rice,
    dracula,
    frankenstein,
    dr jekyll and mr hyde,
    prozac nation by elizabeth wurtzel,
and the da vinci code by dan brown....
i have yet to check if the da vinci code is actually correct (my friend says it is) but apparently in da vinci's painting of the last supper the person on one side of jesus is mary magdalene and there's lots of iconography to prove jesus and mary magdalene were married and had a child....

I'm currently reading Fool's Fate by Robin Hobb. It's the last book in this series. Very very good.

    Other favourites
The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett
    DaVinchi Code by Dan Brown
Dead Boys, Dead Girls, Dead Things by Richard Calder
My Tiny Life by Julian Dibbell
    Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
    Most of Anne Rice's books
All the old Hans Christian Anderson or Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales

About a zillion more which won't come to mind at the moment. I've loved to read my whole life. I've fallen in love with so many books over the years that I've completely lost count.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez 100 years of Solitaire is one of my favorites. Makes me wish I could read Spanish to read it as it originally was.

Welcome--And that reminds me - there is a character called Borges in one of the great books of the 20th Cent.- 'The Name Of The Rose'--by Umberto Eco- it's like the entire history of the Western Mind disguised as a detective story..

Okay since this is a books thread, I am going to take it slightly OT if that is okay with my esteemed friend, Nudie. I have a friend recommend a few books to me, just curious if anyone else had read them and maybe could tell me what they thought?

Cabinet of Curiousities by Douglas Preston
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
A Massive Swelling by Cintra Wilson (not sure on that one, my handwriting is hard to read on that)
House of Leaves by Mark Danelewski
The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte

Again, I wrote these all fast and I might have messed up authors at the very least. Anyone happen to peruse any of these titles?

Bonfire of the Vanities - Tom Wolfe

Read them together as they are set in the same time/place

I tried to read House of Leaves awhile back and couldn't really get into it. Same thing with Me Talk pretty One Day. I have to be in the mood although I've heard it's a great book.

I just finished reading Bag of Bones by King and it reminded me a great deal of why I have enjoyed his writing so much over the years.

I just started reading Serpico and so far it's really good.

Hmmm might have to start a recommend books thread.
