    Default Music Question.

There's a trend I've detected. Punk and Goth seem to be rejoining lately, often with a hardcorish twist. This has spawned the appearance os such bands as From Autumn to Ashes, Atreyu, Funeral for a Friend, Chimaira and even A. F. I.
But what is this genre? Is it new? Am I nuts? What is it called?

    ... so, am I?

Don't like Good Charlotte. Too happy-punkish to fit the bill.

If you ask me, this genre is called "If you listen to me, you're a generated monkeybutt and have no brains but as long as you give me money, I will show you what your parents don't want you to see".
    My girlfriend likes AFI, though

Well, I liked Davey Havok's looks, but that was it. Kind of a young, whinier Maynard James Keenan. And, about your dislike for the rest of the bands I mentioned, I really have no idea where it comes from. I think they sound sweet. Or... however you're soppused to phrase that.

    Maybe I'm thinking lyric-wise, then.

yeah, none of those bands are really any of those things. AFI is kinda punk. I don't know the requirement's to be "gothic" since I don't know what goth music is. all the bands i've seen that people say are goth are either punk, pop, metal, or electronica. but I guess if wearing black makes you goth.
but yeah, I remember back when punk and hardcore meant bands like bad brains. hm. times have changed.

Goth bands: Bauhaus, Joy Division, Switchblade Symphony, NIN(sort of) Sisters of Mercy, David Bowie(sort of dont ask...) Skinny Puppy. theese are probably the more famous goth bands that you would listen to to get an idea of what goth sounds like and few of theese bands sound simmilar to each other

How the hell is Bowie goth? That's a hell of a stretch to make.

if you want to talk about goth and punk then id say a good place to start would be with The Damned. (although, I'm not sure they'd say so.)

Where I come from, the whole Gothic thing was a subset of punk. Punks listened to NIN and Skinny Puppy and Ministry and Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy. The music might be described as gothindustrial at the time, but it blew up in that scene. The whole goth as its own separate thing, in my opinion, has been mostly an internet phenomenon where people try really hard to define it and decide who is in and who is out. I feel like Gothic is an adjective and not a noun, ya know.

Being a little older, the Goth music scene actually spawned out of the collapse of the punk scene in the late 70's early 80's with the onslaught of such awesome bands as Bauhaus, The Love and Rockets, The Cure, Depeche Mode and so on... Then came along bands like NN, Skinny Puppy, Front 242 and the industrial set was formed... Times were simpler and there was no segragation of genre at the time... As for what is happening today with the "Punk/Hardcore", is nothing more then coming full circle...
