The Horror! Penmenship & cursive is now on the SATs!

That idea shakes me to my core. I was always terrible at cursive. I'm actually seriously disgraphic and I don't start my letters correctly at all. Cursive has always been my downfall. And now, I just read on NPR that it's a requirement for the new essay section of the SAT test. Oh my god that sucks!

I was a National Merit Scholar. Don't think that would have happened if the PSAT and SAT required fucking cursive when I was in high school. What aptitude is that a test for? You don't even need cursive in college, much less in life or in the workplace. Most kids today can type and the only one who has to be able to read your notes is you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...glad I never have to take those again. What's the point of it though given it's not only never taught but useless outside of signing checks...once you leave high school NO SCHOOL accepts anything hand written.

Amen to that! Yeah, in Canada we just try not to spell everything wrong!
It's funny how they are adding cursive NOW...I mean, it must be for historical factors or something. Do they have typing speed/accuracy on the SAT too?

I have to write the GRE soon, but the essay portions are done on computer (with spell-check disabled), so all I have to worry about is form, grammer and spelling!

In the state of Washington, we have the WASL. Its NOW a requirement that all graduates of 2008 (and beyond) must pass the WASL in order to graduate from High School, and they also talked about if you didn't pass the WASL, you'd have to wait until you're 18 to apply for a drivers license. The WASL is one big pain in the ass.

I don't understand what's the big deal... we had to learn both print and cursive in the 5th grade it was a requirement for all your essays thereafter. They have however just done away with it though, the South African school system is heading for a complete collapse as a 9th grader could pass the Matriculation exams these days.

Hell here in the south they are happy if you can bubble in the answers and just make your mark on your test....Cursive..Thats all that fancy scroll writin...Looks like a bunch of hoops and loops to me

Yea, here in Canada, we have to do a leteracy(sp?)(lol) test. If you started high school in 1999/2000, you just took the test for practise, luckily for me, I started that year. I only passed half of the test, and I forget which now. You have to pass that in order to graduate, that goes along 40 hours of community invlovment. Anyways, I graduated high school and attending college next year. YAY!

I have a really great signature because I practiced it 666,666 times while sitting in vans over the years. The rest of my cursive is so lame.
