now a history lesson. if you are going to be a political activist you should know some history. i am shocked that you do not know this. hitler did not just gas or discriminate against jews. the 3rd reich discriminated against and rounded up and experimented on and/or murdered homosexuals, people diagnosed with mental illness, people diagnosed with physical disabilities, gypsies, catholics, people of darker complexion, artists, communists and unionizers and other political dissidents, and people whose families had immigrated from various other countries not enough generations prior and other groups.

the following oft-quoted words are attributed to a Pastor Martin Niemöller who thought the nazis were someone else's problem until in 1937 they came for him:
First they came for the socialists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a socialist.
Then the came for the trade unionists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak for me.

versions differ on what exactly Pastor Martin Niemöller's words were, but you get the idea. Niemöller was a u-boat captain in the first world war and an initial supporter of hitler, celebrated in the press for his patriotism and bravery. he began to become unpopular with those in power when in 1933, he organized the Pastors Emergency League to protect lutheran pastors from the police. yes the lutherans might have benefited from metaphorical gas masks too. Pastor Martin Niemöller was more and more outspoken but protected by the fact that the wealthy members of his church in berlin were influential and by press interest. he ended up arrested on hitler's direct orders and found guilty of treason against the third reich and thrown in first the sachsenhausen concentration camp and then dachau. he narrowly missed execution. he was an activist when he got out and was later elected as one of the six presidents of the World Council of Churches, the ecumenical body of the Protestant faiths and received the Lenin Peace Prize and the West German Grand Cross of Merit in recognition of his work to spread understanding that we are all somewhat responsible for what we allow our society to do.

I'm well aware of the history of the Third Reich. The first to go were disabled children. They were not gassed, however. Give me a fucking break. I'm slavic, I know the history all too well. Now, you have offended me.

It doesn't bother me, I just recognized the symbol from a poster that appeared on the Eastern Front of WW2. The meaning of the original poster related only to jews. I should not have expected people to know that automatically. It's no big deal.
