The law invariably will have unintended consequences on the society at large. I hear a loathing of affirmative action and other laws to balance equality. I do actually support these laws. I am unafraid of the other and do not believe in such excuses. Still, I tend to wonder if these laws will end up promoting the resentment that leads to the hate in the first place. I would enforce such laws but ultimately morality can never be legislated.

I also don't see where you are getting the idea that the guy was attacked for his look rather than his beliefs. The people who attacked him called him "Satan" and not "Bluey" or anything referring to his appearance.

well I see your point but I would imagine that "Satan" did refer to his appearance rather than anything else, I would find it difficult to believe that the thugs would have any notion of satanism as a religion.
It sounds more like judical spin to me.

I think almost every point that I wanted to say has already been covered except one.

There was an ealier comment detailing how it was ironic that he mentioned his dislike for other religions, yet he wants to file against the other boys because of the hate crime.

My retort to that is he is simply getting the message across that he does not like these religions, but it never threw him into an act of violence. I definately understood that.

Of course, a whole host of them. They were all kicked out of Heaven way back when - according to several books, but the best description is in Paradise Lost -and consigned to Hades.

wait a minute, if god sends you to hell for disobeying him, then why would satan punish you for doing what he wants, and supposedly tries to get you to do in the first place? especially since his whole purpose is to piss off god, it would seem to me that NOT submitting people to Hell would piss him off a whole lot more, and not to mention that if he wants to overthrow heaven he has billions of people just laying around being punished forever, going to waste, who probbily have no love for the god that condemened them either, and would probbily be willing to kick his ass.
are we to beleive that the all-powerful beings are dumber and more petty and immature than most humans? an amusing thought, but I kinda doubt it.

You need to read Momus by Leon Battista Alberti. Packed with sillyiness and pettiness and stupidity on the part of the gods which makes for a very amusing read indeed! Harvard have brought out an English-language version - ISBN 0-674-00754-9 - which is very well produced indeed.

However, if any of those souls trapped in Hades and condemned to eternal hell were offered the chance to return to their god, whether that god banished them to Hades or not, I suspect all would leap at it.

well hades isn't that bad of a place. hades is just the realm of the dead, where all people go when they die. same as Sheol, hel, and oh, I always forget the name of that place, the Muslim underworld. In fact, Christianity is one of the only religions where death can be worse than living, I guess the other one's figure that this life is hard enough and you should get a break in the next one. Go figure. that's christinaity for you, it's all self-denial and mortification.
