-just of the top of my head.
Gotta put on my geek hat for this one.
Tim Bradstreet will always be a favorite. His illustrations just have a style I dig, they look kinda like cool movie covers it always feels like something is going on, even when it is just a portrait. There was a card game called Heresy that I never learned to play, but I picked up a bunch for some of his work.
Mat Wilson does some really cool stuff for gaming, especially his steampunkish stuff from privateer press.
Dave McKeanen does really cool collage stuff for covers, not as fond of his drawings though. I know there are others but these are the first to leap to mind
Milo Manara...I envy the way he draws. He captures women and expressions like none else.
Masamune Shirow...his use of technology and tradition have always been nearly a decade ahead of everyone else and he continues to be at the bleeding edge...it's like looking at the future. He's just so damned good at what he does he makes it seem alive.
Frank Miller, Geof Darrow, Art Adams, Alan Davis, Mike Mignola, J. O'Barr, Dale Keown, Mike Allred....too many to mention, really !
kevin sembida draws mecha like no other.
Yoshitaka Amano-I think he does the most beautiful artwork
Takehiko Inoue-for awesome watercolours

Jim Lee
Frank Miller
Masamune Shirow
Gerald Brom

Jhonen Vasquez
I almost typed Boris and Julie but I'm fairly certain that they are simply fantasy artists. If I'm wrong on that then add them to my list.
