Default Skimpy prom dress shocks parents

    from ananova

A skimpy prom dress aimed at teenage girls has sparked outrage among US parents.

The racy red dress, which has just two straps that barely covers the wearer's chest, is being aimed at young girls through adverts in girls' magazines.

It is so revealing that some shops are insisting on getting parental permission slips before allowing girls to buy it.

And even the maker's boss admits he would never allow his own daughter to buy it.

But amazingly the £265 dress, which critics say turns girls "from a Prom princess to a porn queen", is one of the firm's best sellers.

The dress, by Xcite, is prominently advertised in magazines like Seventeen Prom, YM Prom and Teen Prom.

Nick Yeh, the CEO of Xcite, admitted: "I was shocked when I first saw it. I have a 15-year-old daughter and, no, I would not recommend she wear this dress.

"But now it's one of our top 20 dresses nationwide. As a businessman, I'm not judging what a teenager should wear or not wear. It's up to the parents to decide for their own children."

Is that IT? I was wearing way worse stuff like that at age 15. OOOH, nevermind. You mean the Red dress on the link. The above photos aren't that bad, but that one red dress, yeah, that isn't appropriate. I'd be too worried that my nipples would be exposed. That is really messed up. The slogan is really bad too. I don't think any school would allow a student to dress like that. I don't even think it's that pretty.

Some of them, like the one in the blue dress isn't bad, but yeah, the red dress is like a belt's width covering up top.

I don't see what the big deal is. The dresses all "come off " at the end of the prom anyway.

Yeah, but I think the problem is that the dresses are about to "come off" in the middle of prom.

Schools have dress codes and most of the kids at proms have parents or guardians. Overall they are fairly nice dresses. As far as being to risque, that is for the people buying the dressed and running the dances. Personally I am of the mind that most people at proms are 17 or 18 and can go see a boob anyway if they want.

The dress is ugly. I wouldn't let my daughter (if I had one) wear it on grounds of lack of good taste. The pale blue one maybe. But seriously, if you need parental permission to buy the damned thing what makes you think you can wear it to a school function?
