MARDI GRAS! Today!

So today is Fat Tuesday! I have never been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but it looks like fun! Have any of you been to Mardi Gras? I have been to New Orleans, and I love it, but I have always wanted to go during Mardi Gras!

It is kinda creepy during Mardi Gras. I once went accidentally during Mardi Gras. We were shooting Poppy Z. Brite and she didn't mention that the date we chose was going to put us there then. It was like wall-to-wall people and the service in a lot of places was totally awful.

I'm giggling that I still haven't learned when Mardi Gras is. I emailed a friend of mine in New Orleans and was wondering why he hadn't gotten back to me. Duh. He can see the parades from his window.

Yes, a lot of people say that. I guess it is more fun to visit New Orleans off season, or when some other event is happening! I have a really beautiful book on the history of the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, beautiful photos from the early days.

I haven't been, and have friends from New Orleans that say its an utter nightmare, something akin to a messier Spring Break. Although I regret being so close to New Orleans and missing yet another Fat Tuesday. Meh.

There's a carnival over here too these days but i'd rather go to new orleans, some people here don't quite get the carnival "feeling" and get all violent... i'm a man of excess but i hate our carnival, i'd rather have other excess in new orleans.
