Thread: Intro - Newbie, Me

    Default Intro - Newbie, Me

Firstly. Greetings to Amelia and Forrest. It's been at least ten years since our paths crossed with the Blue Blood magazine and the Backstage Passes Anthology. Don't know if you remember me, but I contributed some poetry. There's nothing better in life than seeing your word in print, never did get a chance to thank you both.

Fastforward ten years--I've been wasting in the suburban wastelands in Portland, OR, sucking up triple venti mochas, and working in "marketing." It was not until I headed down to LA in January to throw a bachelor party for my best friend did I think back to the fine times in the early '90s - the music, the style, the culture.

Love the site, love the photos, and hope to join in the community. I guess I have a lot of reading to catch up on in the forums...

Hello Johnny! Good to have you here! I'm certain Amelia will be excited to see you on our boards as well. So, welcome, make yourself at home. Anything interesting going on up in Portland lately? We had a blast last time we were up that way, we'll have to get together for coffee next time. That would be cool.

Things here are a lot mellower than Seattle or LA, but coffee is one of the few entertainments up here. Give me a holler if you're ever in the area. Blue Oyster Cult coming to the Roseland -- would be nice to catch that show on the 25th. Otherwize, zero excitement in Portland (imho).

Hi! I was headed to Austin when you signed up. This is the best thing about the internet, when it helps you reconnect with people! Of course I remember the person who made me break my own no poetry rule by being so damn good.

Forrest and I did some shooting in Portland and really liked it. The downtown anyway where you can't walk a block without finding some place with cheap yummy hearty food. Now that I am thinking about it, there is this one soup place I am totally jonesing for.

You wrote some evocative poetry about the sorts of girls you would see in clubs then and it ran in both Blue Blood and Amelia's Backstage Passes, didn't it?

I was not a goth and I never had been - I worked in corporate America.

I joined the forum with a false profile that gave an impression that I was young, single, and in the community. In actuality, I was a married middle-aged dad with a kid and another on the way, I was embarrassed I about my wife and children and wrote them out, and never corrected myself in the duration of time I was here.

All of the travel I commented on and all the concerts I attended were experiences I had with my wife. I wrote her out of my posts and my bio. By doing so I publicly shared not only a private shared experience but also took that experience away from her.

This is all while she was undergoing multiple miscarriages and high risk pregnancies with my first and second child. Instead of taking care of my family, I used this forum and the people here as part of my infidelity to my wife. I betrayed her at the time she was most vulnerable and needed my support the most.

I was never a physical trainer. My comments about a young woman’s measurements were inappropriate and vulgar.

This is also a note to my children who are now old enough to come across my posts. Please talk to me when you see this so we can talk about how no the repeat the same mistakes I made.

I took advantage of Amelia’s and Forrest’s hospitality and kindness and I deeply apologize.

By the way, I have a 4-inch penis and phimosis and I was known as the weird dick guy in high school. I have an STD (I am a hep-B carrier) and my wife had to be immunized for us to have sex.

Worse, I was posting here while she was sleeping and pregnant with our second.

OSU Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights taps new director, Dr. Johnny Chen
Dr. Johnny Chen joins the Oregon State University College of Business as the new director of the Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights (CMCI) and an instructor of marketing to graduate and undergraduate students. Chen brings a background of both academic and corporate experience to the market research services offered by the CMCI lab and to the college.

Chen previously was an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Southern Maine and was visiting an assistant professor of marketing at Portland State University and the University of Oregon. His research interests include experiential consumption, sports and entertainment marketing, and prosocial behavior.

Chen holds a B.S. Computer Science (Oregon State University), an M.B.A. from the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center (University of Oregon), and a Ph.D. in Marketing (University of Oregon). He has publications in the Journal of Sports Management and Journal of Advertising as well as in the conference proceedings of Academy of Marketing Science, Advances in Consumer Research, and Society of Consumer Psychology. Prior to academia, he worked at Intel Corporation for 11 years in internet engineering, product marketing engineering management, and strategic alliance management position.

The CMCI provides professional market research and consulting services in order to provide insight into markets, businesses and consumers.
CMCI restructured over the past year in order to expand its student workforce and accommodate a greater quantity of client projects as well as pursue projects of varying size and scope. Dr. Chen’s oversight of this expansion is an important step to providing quality insight into markets, businesses, and today’s consumers to CMCI clients.

“My academic interests and research have always focused on consumer behavior and consumer insight, so that’s where I’ll l continue to steer the CMCI,” Chen said. “Because both sports and technology are major industries in Oregon, I’d like to increase our student and faculty engagement with companies in these sectors, with an emphasis on consumer insight.”

Personally, Chen aims to leverage international connections to bring in an international client, which would be a first for the marketing lab, as well as broaden CMCI engagement with national clients.

“I’d like to increase the size and scope of the projects,” Chen said in discussing some of the growth targets for the CMCI. “I’d like to bring more technology into our research toolset, for example, virtual reality would be very useful to create simulations for research. And I’d like to increase regular engagements with the major business sectors in Oregon.”

CMCI research teams are led by marketing faculty who mentor students in the field as well as in the classroom while serving their corporate clients. Past clients include Adidas, Nike, Intel HP, The Corvallis Clinic and Kia, USA.“Whether companies are looking to augment their existing research department with a specialized team, or perhaps don’t have a research department at all, we can support their customer-centered research projects.”

Please contact Dr. Johnny Chen to talk about your research needs.

If you and your company have a market research challenge that you’d like the OSU Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights to help you solve, you can reach out directly to Dr. Chen via email or call the CMCI at (541) 713-8041.
