It should be said that existing Socialist systems are in place, and they have some of the highest living standards in the world. Namely the Scandinavian countries.

The Scandinavian countries are going broke. Sweden will be forced to apply for aid from the IMF soon.

Actually, I should qualify my statement about Sweden. Their GDP has seen growth the last few years, unlike the 90's, and they've scaled back some of their entitlements. They simply applied to IMF for some refinancing because of a tough winter, and higher-than-expected unemployment. But they are certainly not a model of economic stability; the only Scandinavian country which is would be Germany, which is a mixed economy like ours.

I fail to see how "going broke" is a fair estimate considering most countries are "going broke," the US included. Foreign investors nearly own half of our debt, and I know China is actively pursuing owning more of it. And the way Scandinavian governments work, they don't privatize to save costs, they nationalize. I wouldn't be surprised if they did that some more in the coming years.

Well, I didn't factor in the "**** and pillage," factor where a large portion of the GDP comes from.

it's not the word itself, it's to prevent wierdos that are googling that word from coming here thinking this this site is about that or is supportive of it or whatever. there's a few others like it such as "kiddie p*rn", stuff like that. I'm not pro censorship, but I think it's justified and in these cases if it's neccesary to use such words blotting them out doesn't subtract from the point and we all know what the word is.

Interesting perspective. As the british press would have it it's the Germans who are having trouble - struggling to modernise an outdated industrial base, fighting unemployment and apathy, repeatedly failing to meet their EU economic targets...
