LONDON (Reuters) - British comedian Vic Reeves has been dropped from TV advertisements for car insurance after being arrested and charged with drunken driving.

The 46-year old featured in ads for Churchill Insurance but the company said the campaign has now been withdrawn.

Reeves, whose real name is James Moir, was involved in a collision in Kent on Saturday. He was charged with drunken driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

"We are extremely concerned to hear of the recent events involving Vic Reeves," Churchill said in a statement.

"We take all road safety issues very seriously and in view of this, we will be withdrawing our one TV advert featuring Vic Reeves, while we fully review the situation."
