Do you like metal but not industrial music or industrial music but not metal? It seems like some people feel really strongly that they are into one but not the other but from a musician's standpoint they have a lot of similarities.

I like Industrial...tends to have the kind of style and feel I look for in music. Metal...just isn't my thing at all. I've given it many shots and it just doesn't speak to me...I can't identify and enjoy it so I tend to ignore it. It's not a staple of my music diet in any way.
Similiar yes but not the same, thats like comparing country to western. I prefer Industrial myself. and I'll pass on both the country and the western.

I prefer industrial, metal's not bad............ but a lot of bands just sound the same....... it's like "this is the new one from killer death squad" I'd say something like "doesn't that sound like that death killer squad from last week?"
why? because i can thats why , also because im not a fan of either genre i can tolerate it to a certain point and there are a few bands i might listen to but over all , metal, and industrial just aint my thing. besides theres no banjos what kind of shit is thatOriginally Posted by Ellis

I like hooky guitar-driven industrial and, I'm gonna cop to it, I like glam metal. I don't think there is that much distance from NIN to Motley Crue or Ministry to GNR. I have generally had friends who would think it is cooler than I've photographed someone from Marilyn Manson that than I've photographed someone from Bang Tango. (Just examples off the top of my head; Forrest and I have shot a lot of people in bands, so please no one be offended that you were not the example I used.) Back in the Sunset Strip heyday, I used to wear a pair of combat boots with a pair of white lace laces in one and a purple lace in the other and Metal Chick with Traction written on the toe of one. This was when industrial was considered, at least in DC, as a subset of punk and some metal guy in LA had looked at my lingerie shirt and my miliary surplus combat boots and indignantly asked, "are you punk or are you metal?"
being from Chicago, the alternative station used to play industrial music on saturdays at midnight and for me sometimes, the music is a reminder of home............ also for the most part (at least this is true for the KC area) you don't have 15-year-old douchebags trying to fuck with you, I see the same people at every industrial show, some drove all the way from Iowa to see bands here......... the people are more loyal for the most part to these bands, and it's always cool to see people you haven't talked to in a while at an industrial show. For that reason I love industrial music........... perhaps in France I might get to see Wumpscutt or Das Ich, if not I can always get a train to Germany.
I like old metal , reliable stuff like venom and old maiden , but most of my cds are industrial , and if I buy metal it's like a best of so I suppose I prefer industrial now
I think Amelia makes a great point> also look at some of the freat pun/industrial collaberations my all time fave bein Pailhead..Al J and Ian McKaye in one room...there are others Lard, I also like metal but more the crazy as double bass drum stuff..music is subjective.
Personally I'm into both - along with punk and gothic music...
Im waiting for metal hair bands to make a comeback so I can feather my hair and wear spandex again![]()

I can't say I like either one better, there is a TON of shit metal out there, and even more shit industrial(just by virtue of its easier to make- now to clarify, Im saying its easier to make industrial, NOT GOOD INDUSTRIAL)
however, I tend to like hybrids a bit more than those genre dedicated.
