Okay if you know alien movies, please help me.

Okay so I'm trying to find this movie I saw when I was little and loved, but I haven't seen it since I was like 5 or 6 and I totally forgot what it's called, but it is bothering me and I need to find out what it's called so I can rent it...

What I remember is there is an alien boy who is red... I think his name is Daniel, someones name is Daniel in the movie... and there is this man and the alien boy calls the man "Uncle"...it's a really depressing movie from what I remember, and I remember the alien boy screaming "Uncle! Uncle!! Uncle!!!"

Haha maybe this will ring a bell? Help! It's like one of those things that has been bothering me and I won't be able to fall asleep until I know what this movie is called.

i got the book years ago, it goes into way more detail with the ending about how the earthling has to go through so much shit just to get his "nephew" to sing his ancestory with an earthling inplace of his (dead) alien dad.

does that make me a literary lesbian?
