I hate tattoos

well it seems to me that in a society that's bolwed over with standardization, and everyone is decreased to the lowest common economic denominator, it's no shock that people are desperatly trying to find something that offers signifigance and approval, even if it is a fantasy world of escape or a physical look that sets them apart from thier monotnony.

eh i want to get a tattoo but it has nothing to do with trends. I've never been one to follow the crowd and I'm sure a few models her can attest to being inked for other reasons besides it. Ink is like any other form of art, simply put it's a way to express ones self. Sure there are some shit artists who are only in it for the money and sure there are people who get inked simply to 'look cool'. Anything i put on myself though is either going to be created by me or a friend, something that means something to me, or that i simply enjoy so much i want to keep it close at hand lol or on skin. I love tattoos personally and some of my favourite models here are covered in them. And with so many people open to getting tatoos today and yourself being an artists i find it surprising that you have seemingly only run into the airheads. In fact I'm designing some flash art for my older sister as it is. I joked that instead of having my art in her house it would be easier for her to carry it around on her. And this in itself makes me very happy, to know that someone likes my artwork so much that they want me to make something for them that could very well be with them for the rest of their lives.

Also, there's a difference between getting inked because you want to be trendy and getting inked because you think it looks good. If I didn't think it looked good, I wouldn't get it. It's not ignoble to get a tattoo for no real significance other than you're prettier with it.

I would say more people get tatoos for shallow reasons than deep ones, but so what? If you think it looks good, or you have some deep spiritual message to put out, or you are paying some sort of tribute to something or you just got drunk does it really matter? Is tradition really any more noble than fashion?

It drives me nuts that people think there are all these good and bad reasons to get a tatoo. Mine was a joke that went too far. A joke. Too far. I mean litterally I was joking about it one minute and an hour later some guy was drawing on my chest. How can that possibly be a good reason to get a tatoo? But every once in a while when I am feeling down I look at it and it makes me smile. So even if I didn't have a high quality punk rock reason to get my tatoo, it worked for me. Isn't that what really matters?

If someone gets a tatoo because they think it's cool isn't that a valid reason?

Agreed. Something could psychologically be said for a guy who comes into a site filled with tattooed vixens and makes such a negative post about body art. Attention craved? You got it.
But if you don't like who we are and what we do...why are you here?

I have tattoos because they aren't 'trendy'. Because each tattoo represents something in my life...a point in my life. To remind me. If I got it just for art I would have Erte tattoos (as an art student I trust you are familiar with Erte, no?) all over my body. As a former art student, I saw kids getting them to be 'artsy' and to fit in with the other art students who didn't have a clue of who they were and where they fit in...but I am different. I know who I am. I know where I fit in. And it is here, in this subculture, in this world.
My tattoos are an extension of who I am. They are my personality. They are also an addicition. That is what they are to me. People....rephrase...KIDS who get tattoos now are doing so just for the sake of looking 'cool'. Tattooing started off in Africa, India, etc and it was for religious and protective purposes. Read up on the history of tattooing before you start to bash it. You are an art student, I figured you were smarter than that to judge before you read up on the real facts. LEARN before you start to BURN, m'dear.

mome taken what i dont like is when new people fet old schoold esigns inke don em and dont even know what the symbol means.just the other day I picke dup a copy of tattoo revue and the front cover had a chica on it with spiderwebs on her elbows. yeh it was cute but......spiderwebs on the elbows originally meant you dud time in jail. did she know that? prob;ly not. or people who get tons of nautical stars or "cookie" anchors on their forearms. sheesh. tribal is cool but im not a fan of it on my own body unless I draw itmyself. lol the only tribal I have respect for people gettin is true tribal samoan,aborigine etc.

Now that's just silly. I've drawn my only tattoo, and I've drawn my next few tattoos. Whether or not it's the thing to do had no play in my art, or the desire for it to be on my body. Everyone has their own opinion, so I'm not going to bash yours, but you have to admit that it's odd you decided to come here (where most all of their models are even tattoo'd, not to mention the people in the community,) and decide to announce your apprehension for them.

Then again, one poster on a message board isn't going to change anyone's mind. That being said, I hate the people that get tattoos just because they think it might be their ticket in to a 'group'. I'm sick of that.

I really have to wonder why it is you became a part of a community that has a large number of people into body modifications? Did you look at any of the content on the site before joining up?

You realize several of your favorite musicians you have listed are very heavily tattooed people? Does that make you like their music less? If your opinions are based solely on some people you say are 'pedantic' then have you considered that you're speaking to the wrong people?

Do you seriously think that all people with tattoos don't have jobs? Don't have lives that they live that are in fact beyond what they do with their skin?

I'd really appreciate some sort of straight forward answer as to what exactly the point of your post was. You saying 'no offense' does not lessen the offense in any way whatsoever. linking the profile of an art student makes you see more like a real person who is an idiot instead of a fake person who is a troll. it is a troll thing to come some place like Blue Blood and say everyone with a tattoo is bad. Blue Bloods tend to be intelligent enough not to like unsupported generalizations and also they tend to like good tattoos. the art student guy's profile sounds like a really cool guy but not a guy who would post all the stuff you have posted in the last day. my point in posting the profiles was that you probably are not that guy so what you said was not intended to be valid just argumentative.

Personally I dont agree with him about hating tattoos but I do hate it when people get pointless tattoos. I am one of those people that feels that each and every tattoo a person gets should have some sort of meaning. For example although I have no tattoos (fear of needles dating back to when I was a kid) if I were to get any some one of the ones that I would consider getting would be something having to do with my sister who was killed

I'm Christian Catholic, too.... though not an exellent example of one, but I'm still a Catholic.

I got my tattoo because I've wanted one since about mid primary school. I never once fitted in to any particular groups in school, or anywhere else, and I have friends from all walks of life who are into all things different. You're generalising an awful lot by bashing people with tattoos and saying you are yet to meet a person with a tattoo who you are yet to stand talking to.

I've met people like you before... they're really nice to you, but once they discover something about you (such as a tattoo, previous partner, piercings below the border), they immediately decide you're an undesirable person. I think you came to the wrong place to make your point. Just a hunch.
