    Default Star tattoos?

Just wondering if anyone knows what's behind the popularity of star tattoos? In particular, 5 pointed stars with half shading, usually red or blue. I've noticed a lot of the models here have them, along with some porn stars and even some of the strippers at my local clubs.

Do they have some particular significance, or are they just popular like Celtic tribal patterns were a few years ago? Don't get me wrong, I think they look great, but I've been noticing a marked increase in them in the last couple of years or so...

i did some diging around in some books i have, and aparently the reason these sailors tattoed em was because in those days they traveled by looking at the stars. so the tattooed stars where said to keep them from getting lost you know to keep them from going in the wrong direction in life or wherever they may be heading

It's the current "To be lasered off in 5 years" tattoo design. Pretty much played out at this point...I still dig it but it's trend got way too many branded with something they are gonna hate soon enough.

Its a popular design amongst emo kids. Your especially emo when you get two identical stars tattooed on both shoulders and even more if those stars are on your wrist with flames going upwards. Emo cracks me up sometimes

I think it's because of the davinci code.

my partner has two stars in leopard print on her stomach. I told her that star tatoos are really cliched today, but she still wanted them and they look pretty sex.

My first tattoos were two nautical stars on my lower stomach. I got em cause I knew all about the meaning behind em from (the whole sailor thing and keeping you from getting lost as KilLAtomiK said), and they meant a lot to me at that point in my life. Still do, as a matter of fact. I know that they've become "trendy" now as it were, but i got mine because of the meaning they had for me. whew, sorry this is kinda long winded, but all my tats have a special meaning to me and i never mind talking about em
