I am actually really aghast that the powers that be have trained people into believing that these sorts of situations SHOULDN'T be politicized (particularly if they reflect poorly on the current administration.) We live in a democracy, an informed public debate is the foundation of our society. If a government official or agency appears to have done a poor job, it should be questioned. It's not unpatriotic. It's the core of BEING patriotic. Sure, action is important and should be a higher priority than debate, but this new notion that we can't hold leadership accountable for damn near anything is totally counter to our nations principles.
We need the Mayor Ray Nagin's expressing outrage, we need the Lt. Gen. Russel Honore's kicking ass and making thing happen, we need the top level officials answering the hard questions, and we even need people like Michael Moore, Reverend Jesse Jackson, etc. to stir debate so that we can all make up our minds about what is working and what is clearly not.
