I spent hrs sitting in my closet wearing my big winter coat waiting for the back wall of the narrow dark space to be lit by a lamp post. I still want to winter at Cair Paravel and play chess with a talking mouse. Oh tea with centaurs and dancing with giants *sigh*

I ached to go to Narnia so badly as a kid that watching that trailer today still felt like a fist squeezing around my heart.

It was a lot like the feeling I got years later, watching MTV, back when they played videos of these wonderful exciting fantasy worlds. Only the Narnia draw was stronger and I guess I eventually did cross through that MTV wardrobe.

I've always enjoyed the phrase "He's so far in the closet he's found Narnia".....does that count?

Speaking of Narnia, and Halloween being so close. I just thought I would mention that I'm going as Bacchus this year. There was a bit of his antics in Prince Caspian I believe. It's all part of my obsession with drinking, dancing and chasing the fawns. Damn I want to be a Satyr, I wouldn't even mind the hooves, they are kinda like boots I guess.

I never got Narnia as a kid. I was deprived.

Fantastica, though, I STILL want to go to. I will travel through the forest of snapping orchids, and dwell inside the Seeing Hand, where I will amuse myself by throwing things down the bottomless pit.

Doesn't sound very amusing......you don't even get a cool splat sound. The only amusing thing I can think of is a human being who you could hear screaming all the way down....not that I've put any thought into this or anything...

My mom bought me some of that when I was real little. If I remember right, it's like a toffee.

I'll be just as lost as you my dear. But if you find me tell me I'm looking for me.

Turkish Delight is like jelly candy covered in chocolate. I wasn't really impressed but I guess when you grow up without Reeses' you have different tastes. I'd have asked for toffees ot taffys but well that's me. The toffees do make an apperance in Magician's Nephew (my fave of the Narnia books).

    Ok..."Amber" series...."MODE" series....
Clue me in, I want to read whatever.

I actually DID think 'turkish delight' for a while was an offhand reference to heroin. He uses so many offhanded references in his characters (lion=jesus, etc) that one would feign to think so.
To me, the series is one of the most brilliantly written and disgused christian testaments. You get the message...without him pushing it down your throat..and it all seems like a fantasy...

I completely missed the religious overtones as a kid, just loved the wonderful world they were able to escape to where they had meaning, purpose, and adventures.

Nine Princes in Amber is the best of that series, but it was no Narnia, at least not for me.

I think there's a turkish delight-based candy bar up here in Canada called Big Turk (now there's an unfortunate name for a sweet). I've never had it, though; I've never been big on the substance.

BIG TURK! HA HA HA HA!
You'll have to get one and scan it for the pic...I love that.

Oh, the freudian notions of that name...and the fact that it's a candy bar (reference to male sex organ as far as iconography in a psychological sense)
    Oh geez...that is so funny.

This place has alot of good stuff. Even the yummy candy bars they don't have in the US. YUM! BTW, I find Turkish Delight yummy. Possibly because of the memory involved with it. The first time I had it was when I was young, around Narnia reading age. It was a Christmas present. Second was when I was living with a host family for my first weekend in England. The dad was named Ray, and he cracked me up. After dinner, he brought out samples of his vast collection of sweets, and let me have a little of each, Turkish Delight being one of them.

And, I have to stick with EvilBlink. I wanted to go to Xanth very badly as a young person as well. I would still go I think. Although Narnia is VERY tempting. I just want to run away from home.
