That's funny that you say that because I think I'd get really upset.

Sorry that happened to you. That sucks and you deserve appreciation .

I had a boss who once hired me expressly for that purpose

seriously dude, if this is an ongoing thing, and not just a one time event, I'd start looking for a new job.

life's too short to accept horseshit from horses' asses...

Here's an Idea don't give your good ideas to your boss. Give him the okay ones and then durring the meeting mention very loudly that you had an idea that would be so much better, here it is. Best to be sure you have another job lined up though.

It's not really an ongoing thing. Generally I like my job, but I kinda feel like they don't quite see the things I see, and how the shit I come up with can improve our position while still being part of our mission (I work in academia, so it's not a bigtime profit motive, although we do need funding for everything). I also don't think they quite appreciate how good I am at my job and the things related to it (I'm not TEH BEST EVAR, but I've *rarely* run across people who had the breadth and depth of knowledge that I do). I actually am waiting to hear about another job this week, although the timing is unrelated.

My feelings are just hurt. A lot.

Do you get along with your boss? I mean did you before this? Try talking to him about it. Sometimes that helps. Either the guy aplogises or you find out where things really stand between you two. If it's going to be a continuous thing, keep your good ideas to yourself. That's really all the advice I can give you.

He's not really my boss, but my Boss' boss. Complex. I'm not sure bringing it up directly would be a completely positive thing. He's a good person and doesn't mean harm, but he mishandled this pretty badly.

I'm mostly hoping I get that new job. I think I need a fresh start.

I had an employer do that to me once..."once". Had a restraining order put on me just because I knocked out his two front teeth. Guy couldn't take a joke I guess.

It pisses me off royally. But I think Keiko's advice about bringing up your good advice in front of other's might work.
GOOD LUCK on the new job though, I'll send you positive energy....

If the boss claims your idea as their own, it's time to lay it all on the line and go double or nothing. Since it's your idea, you obviously know more about it. Upstage the prick no holds barred. You would be surprised how well it works.

    Thanks hon!

Luckily all of the people participating in the project that this is about know that it was my idea (since I was the one who approached and organized them before it was brought up to higher-ups). I think it will still be a cool thing if we mostly ignore what the bossman says and do what we want (which should be fine, since that's often par for the course).

I'd just tend to subtley let them know I let them take credit, and let then know I'm ok with it, and at the same time, ask for a raise...

"If I'm going to be providing the company with such useful information for these client meetings, I think an equitable increase in my compensation should be in order..."

If they blow me off, or keep being dicks, then it's time to start looking.
But some bosses really like to take credit.
Fine with me, as long as you pay me for the priviledge...

i don't suppose the occasion ever arose.. but i like the idea of standing on your chair, pointing at the offending party and screaming at the top of your voice "that's MY IDEA! YOU STOLE MY FUCKING IDEA, YOU CLASSICALLY TRAINED FARTKNOCKER!"

then challenge him to a duel. socks full of rocks at two paces.

I'd sya suck it up and move on.is getting upset over it gonna pay the bills?
look at ti from a living perspective of you need to work to keep a roof over your head and food on the table...not for popularity purposes.
i had a somewhat similar problem but different where I last worked in that the manager over me was a huge suck up and snitched about evry little thing I said in general to the boss no matter how ridiculous it was. htanx to him, I ended up having to give in a two weeks notice over a month in advance.
