Thread: Magazines

  1. #1

    Default Magazines

I just got one of my magazines in the mail today, and it got me wondering what other people are subscribed to. Generally I would read them in the store but some just aren't exactly in every Tarjé. I'm low on the dough, so I'm just listed for Gothic Beauty. I read Science & Art mags when I'm at a store. You fellows?

I subscribe to Popular Mechanics. Other than that if I want info I get it online or turn on the tv.

if I'm at a freinds house, i'll read national geographic. if i'm at the library I may browse a metal or skate mag. I have a tendency to read rolling stone, and I have no idea why. even if it's not utter rubbish, they can't write articles anyway, so in the off chance that they do mention a good band, they'll make them sound shitty. actually I think that they mention crimpshrine in thier latest issue, which is probbily the usual attempt by green day to convince that they are a real indie band. I guess the way to be a successful indie punk band is to fuck over aaron cometbus.

I first came across the publisher of GB when he applied to model nude for Blue Blood, but I really more met him when he had a membership to GothicSluts.com and he really took advantage of my scene supportive nature. And then, after applying to model himself and moaning about how desperately much he wished Blue Blood girls would be a part of his thing or just give him the time of day, then he sent out a mass-mailing being rude about our girls. The guy is a real money-grubbing hypocrite.

Err, I mean, I love magazines, so it varies. I don't subscribe to anything, although certain magazines tend to send me their stuff regularly. A few which I look at the moment are Kerrang, Marquis, On Our Backs, $pread, French Photo, Wired, French Vogue, and I love those huge magazines from the couture fashion shows, but the $120 price tag tends to make those newsstand browsers. I love trade magazines too, even for industries I am not in.

I think it is funny, but Rockwulf would prefer it if you expressed it in the form of a Batman cartoon.

It may not dominate before then, but I'm sure you will make it hip for those in the know well before.

well fuck that guy up the ass with a petrified ferret, and twist in that case!

I generally only read what's laying around my friend's apartments... which usually includes-the nation, heavy metal, various publishing, and writing rags, penthouse, playboy, club international, hustler, hawk, barely legal, trashy euro teen porn, leg show, high times, the new yorker, and the venerable weekly world news...

...I remember a few years back when I went into a porn shop, and bought a big 'grab bag' of BDS/M porn... and lo and behold here was a print copy of Blue Blood (quite a few years back...) if I recall correctly the cover girl was name Cherry, and there was a spread with a Duchess DeSade... mmmm, porn remembered...

btw Amelia I was out looking for a new calendar, and the only two 'girlie' ones I could find were playboy, and sports illustrated... hell they had more calendars of topless male firefighters...

...so, uh... if you guys wanted to make all of us mere mortals very, very happy... a Blue Blood calendar... please... we'll beg!

I'd buy a calander! It's the first one I'd need in over two years since my current apartment's fridge wasn't big enough to hold one.....

Ummmm.... Not to derail the topic in any form or fashion, but I subscribe to Premiere, MacAddict, 3D World and DV.

But, my two cents about Gothic Beauty (I've only been aware of the magazine for about a year or so now) is that I often find the photgraphy in the ads to be better than the photography that accompanies the articles.

i steal magazines from the newsagent thats connected to my work, but mostly just read them on quiet days, as a great man once said "90% of everything is shit"
i like to take the free cds home, burn them, then repackage the magazine a day later.

i was about to say the same. cept i dont read GB. i see that mag as a kindergoth start up kit... a how to guide for the miss informed.

although i was going to put an ad in it..but they only gave me 1 week to come up with an ad design + 500 bucks. so it never happened.

    anywho i read:
bizarre (UK mag), futuremusick (UK), and some really good underground mag that i forgot the name of cause i havent read it in 3 years..but itll come to me ~_*

Hey, there are not that many scene magazines. If you enjoy that one, you should totally read it.

I just hope that all Blue Bloods would throw a drink in the publisher's face if they ever run into him. And post pix and/or video of it here for all our entertainment, of course.

I used to subscribe to GB also. And I gotta agree with HeadlessBill, the photo ads are much better than the articles, in fact, every photographer I've ever shown the mag to has said the same thing. Things that make ya go, hmm.

Anyhoo - I'm currently subscribed to Cthulu Sex and Juxtapoz.

Well, he's pissed off pretty much every photographer who might shoot for that sort of thing, so they might shoot ads that might end up in that mag, but they won't work with GB directly.

I would be interested in finding out what they do to piss off the photographers. I know so many people who have "shoot something for GB" on their to do list. I could easily warn them off if I had some info.
Around their 10th issue I inquired about how they go about taking submissions and they made it sound like a walk in the park.
