The definition of the word Goth is a culture of pre-dark ages Europe, or a building style in the 17th century to ward off bad spirits (gargoyles, etc).

Gothic as a term refers to a writing style pioneered at the near-end of the Rennesaince.

So they are archaic cultures, or buildings, or prose?

Those are cool articles. I think this chat board is a perfect example of a lot the positive points they were trying to make.

I was glad to see Siouxsie & the Banshees get mentions in those stories. I'm listening to her right now actually.

It's about time people realised Goths weren't the bad people in the world. As my friend Oli says, "Goths wear their 'Evil' on the outside, so there's no room on the inside!"
It's the so-called Normals that are the Evil ones.

For information, I am a Civil Servant. I don't tone down my clothing much, but just enough to not get wrong. I don't wear my skin tight pvc pants, but I do wear ordinary skin tight pants, and occasionally combat pants. I walk around the site where I work (which is the largest Government installation in Europe, and second in the world only to the Pentagon) and I have people whose bosses are in charge of the whole department, (as in the whole of HM Revenue & Customs!) saying hi to me by name, and asking how I'm doing. It's very unusal.

I was only upset by this statement from the writer in the Guardian...

"I see them now in Camden where I live and think 'Fine in your twenties. But when you're 30? Sorry - you look like a twat"

I am personally 36 next month, but still consider myself to be goth. I have hair down to my arse, wear black clothes, prefer boots to shoes, wear shades when the sun shines in my eyes, wear a leather jacket all the time (even in summer) as well as leather gloves. This person needs to watch what she says, there are a lot of older Goths in Camden.

The "Is your boss a goth?" quiz on the Guardian link is the best thing I've read this week.
