actually. let's take a closer look at that lilies of the field thingy.
Book of Matthew, chapter six:
028 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
029 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
030 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
this is just sheer ignorance of plant biology. the lilies of the field don't do so well when there's a drought - where's god's ineffable benevolence then? every plant exists at the expense of every other plant - they all compete for space, soil nutrients and sunlight. they wage a never-ending battle against the insects, animals and fungi that want their nutrients - why do you think some plants have chemicals like morphine, curare, digitalis, atropine and aconite? they're trying to convince the predators to stop chewing on the leaves, goddamit!
