Default My Body Is A Temple

    MY BODY IS A TEMPLE
.....AND MY TEMPLE IS ON FIRE

I have been treating myself really well lately. I went on a raw vegan diet for a month and although I am temporarily back to cooked foods I am eating like a health nut. All roads are pointing me to quit smoking. I think I am on a positive upswing in terms of health and it is the only thing holding me back.

I need a kick in the right direction. Please send me some smoking horror stories, or factoids about how I am getting old and wrinkled at lightning speed, or any other motivational input.

    Thanks guys!

Smoking definitely causes premature graying and wrinkles. Smokers lose an average of 2 teeth every 10 years (after a certain age I don't recall) Smoking reduces your bloodflow and energy level. Your sex life will invariably improve by the increased cardiac input. Are you aging? No. But if you don't quit you will. I have always (and still) look young, but I know it won't last as a smoker.

    I'm doing smokeaway.

Wellbutrin is prescribed to keep up your dopamine levels while you quit. Smoke Away basically flushes the nicotine out of your system.

Really want some good reasons for quitting smoking? I am in that same process, fighting the urge of picking up another ciggy, and it is hard, then I look around the web, and see good reasons...These are not pretty pics, but I hope they help instill the strength to NOT pick up another...

There are many over the counter remedies for helping a person quit, but the only sure way, is to make up Your mind to, and sticking with it. Anyone can get the nicoderm patch or gum, thats easy, but it takes a strong personal commitment to actually do it, and make it permanant.

Someone sent me the most touching story elsewhere online about how her grandpa was diagnosed with cancer right after she found our she was pregnant. She hid her pregnancy so people in the family would concentrate on him. They gave him 6 months he lived for 90 days. He never lived to meet his first great grandson. That one got to me.

Thats a sad thing to hear Scar, and I can relate with it. My Dad died when I was a teen, from both smoking and drinking, so He never met any of His grandkids either.

I never smoked, and have no intention to start smoking, but we are out at some friend's birthday, and I saw on of my best buds trying some cigarillas..
It made me sad, he's almost the last of my friends who hasn't smoked yet..
It's sad to watch him go 'down'...

2 summers ago the following people died from lung cancer in the same 2 months.
    My friend Sherrod's grandma.
    My friend Amy's dad
    My friend Marcella's dad
Sonya, the owner of hairpolice- she was only 35ish

Too bad the "bodies" exhibit will be gone when you come to Atlanta, it shows you real lungs that have been effected by various stages of disease, and smoke damage. Unless they extend it by another week, and they might!
I wish I had some other heartbreaking stories or examples...but I dont. All I can say is Andy quit smoking almost 2 years ago. He says its the best thing he has ever done for himself.

I hope it works out for you but all I know is I can still go up the CN tower stairs in 20 some odd minutes and not be breathing heavily..at all

all the years of breathing in nasty chemical fumes, that's what'sd going to do me in, oh and all the polution from sitting in traffic, that too

but go ahead, be a quitter but just remember how nice it is to take that little seven or eight minute break from it all, when everything just stops and there's nothing else but that little glowing coal just 4 inches from your nose and don't forget there'll always be a candle in the window to quide you home

    (reverse psychology.....who knows, might help)

the way i see it,you gotta pick and choose your Vices in life, and i'm sure i could have a whole hell of alot worse then smoking right now...

maybe it's a sad attempt at justification...and worse since i'm always preaching about self-control and willpower...but i mean when it comes right down to it...a needle,a line, etc etc...or a Camel...For once i've started to Choose the Camel...over the others...and while i still fully stand by them...i still believe it's for the better..for me .right now at least...

this has been true for others i know, over much more powerfull problems as well..

this is all really eyind the point of the thread though,hah...

    hey Scar,

i've done the whole 'raw vegan' thing for over 5 years now, and i generally recommend that people just try to eat as healthy as they can nowadays. it can be really tough on a person's body, and emotions if taken to extreams. a great way to cleanse out the body, possibly not ideal long term, which is something that's taken me alot of soul searching to face.

i'm not sure i really have a 'horror' story, but one of my close friends who's in his 50's recently just had a heart attack. he's slim, and eats a 'reasonable' normal diet, so the only super bad thing he does is smoking. he survived, and is fine now, still very scary. heart attack a week before his daughter's wedding.

PM me if you want to know more about raw diets, cleansing, health stuff in general. i kind of come here to escape that stuff on the net.

congratulations on your decision to make a healthy life!

what are you a fucking pirate?
I dont consider me not smoking being mentally tough or having any special ability to have control over a substance, id just call that being "smart" and having "common sense".

As a former smoker with other physical ailments that had absolutely nothing to do with my past smoking, I am going to say do what you think is right for you. You know intellectually that smoking is a very dangerous thing. You are a grown woman in charge of your own body. Many times I see former addicts as myself, in pain for other reasons and the pain often stems from the addictions. Many times one addiction is lost only to be replaced by another. The key to escaping our former and present addictions just may be in our heads and lie in our physiological make-up. Whatever you decide to do, I honestly wish you luck.
