Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Actor Neil Patrick Harris, best known for his TV role as teen doctor Doogie Howser, has decided to set rumors about his sexuality straight by outing himself. Harris said during a recent interview, "I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living to the fullest ... "
Harris, 33, had previously denied being gay through his publicist, who said he was not of "that persuasion." Although it is not known why Harris decided to come out now, other celebrity "outings" may have had something to do with it: "Grey's Anatomy" actor T.R. Knight and 'N Sync member Lance Bass have both recently publicly stated they are gay.
Harris' full quote, published on People magazine's Web site, reads: "It seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships. So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
