    Now THAT is rebellious.

    Edit:

Why does everyone forget the most important law, ardane, commandment of all?
Thou shalt not partake of the abominations known as diet or caffeine free soda. Regardless of health issues, up-bringing or if it was all that was in stock.

Otherwise, the junk food gods shall smite thee.

Although I'm not a parent myself, I understand the feeling of being different from others and not hanging out with regular people who have sickening similar prejudices against those who are not like them. I'm also a xtian and chose not to have kids myself (totally against anything xtians were taught and for a personal reason), and many people can't believe I am xtian because I am not like other mainstream xtians you meet out there. I agree with others about being a wonderful parent to your child and be child's biggest ally and raise your child to be open-minded towards variety of faiths and different lifestyles. I'm ALL for education. The more educated your child is, the more likely she or he will be a vital member of the society and lead unique life all of her or his own. I wish all parents come together regardless of appearance, different faiths or age to enjoy their children and discuss about raising kids but alas it's not gonna happen. I guess it takes a brave soul to bring people together and overcome the barrier.

Ok Canadian here so our culture is a little different from those of you down south. I currently don't have any kids and I will one day but not panicking about anything just yet.

Raising your kids as someone who lives an alternate lifestyle is not that much different from raising kids in a Christian home. I respect Christianity but it doesn't do anything for me, personally I'm a pagan. My husband however believes in God but not in the organized Christian churches and other than the occasional debate it doesn't really affect us. We celebrate Christmas / Yule and it doesn't really bother me as it consists of us having a tree (pagan), eating turkey (its yummy) and passing out presents (I <3 presents). We did go to midnight mass once for the experience, it was beautiful much like the opera is beautiful but I felt no connection to it. And the next day my husband complained about sleeping in and missing watching the sunrise on Christmas day (tradition for us). So that was the end of that.

What is rebellion ... well to me its a silly word but it used to be quite important to me. Now it just means I'm going to go with my gut and ignore what everyone else expects. As you can see by my picture I dye my hair all sorts of wacky colours, and I love doing that. Two weeks ago I died my hair its natural brown and the people at my conservative law firm freaked. You would have thought the world was coming to an end. They even asked me if I was trying to conform ... I laughed and said nope I just felt like going back to a blank canvas for a while. Its probably not permanent but what is in life really. I may go out tomorrow and start piercing things, depends if thats what I want to do. But thats all just appearance which isn't really substance anyway.

So what about the alternative lifestyle, to me thats not appearance to me thats having a sexuality that is still considered fringe by some. We had some interesting laws here in Canada which made it dodgy to order a catalog with rubber clothing in it. Heaven forbid a magazine you got shipped to you had a girl tied up in it. Things like this were considered illegal but then came the internet and it has a way of evening things all out... thank god/goddess. My sexuality won't affect my kids other than the fact that I am open minded and perhaps the genetics I'm handing down to them. I have a friend who is pregnant at the moment and she asked me if I would have problems with my kids doing some of the things I have done or (we have done lol). Well the stupid and dangerous stuff maybe but that is a part of growing up and other than that go for it. I'm not hiding my rubber from my kids although I won't be waving it in their faces either. I won't be hiding my porn either although again I won't have it on the coffee table in the living room. As long as you don't have Daddy's porn room in the basement which no one is allowed to enter cuz he is looking at snuff movies you are pretty much fine.

I think the thing to keep in mind when raising kids is that everyone is different, every family has their strangeness and the things they probably don't want to share with the world. Expose your kids to all types of Religion, so they can understand the people who believe in them. Get them to be friends with normal people and with alternative people (yes even cheerleaders), so that they are not hampered by prejudice. Take them to Chinese New Year celebrations so they can enjoy someone else's culture and food (yummy!).

Get them to the point where they understand they are meeting a person, not a label, and people are good bad and indifferent no matter what section of society they fall in to.

No, it's a shorthand for "christian," where the X represents the first letter of the greek word for Christ (XPICTOC, pronounced "khristos"). It's a common usage that dates back nearly 4 centuries.

Sorry I read a page that said what you said, as well as stating that its a trm some christians use for ex-christians or christians who say they're christians, but don't practice the religion.

I suppose it's possible, but I've never encountered it used as such. *shrug*

I remembered something that someone wrote about this that was really good, so I thought I'd post it here.

"I was watching the baby today,
And a question arose for me.
A little voice just popped in my head, and it said,
    "What does a child need?"

    Does she need Industry?
Does she need a daddy who's gone 40 hours a week?
Does she need TV to tell her she's ugly?
Does she need a school to tell her her only value is her future productivity?
Does she need a church to tell her, "Do what we say, cough up the money,
or God is going to torture you for eternity"?
Does she need parents whose hearts are numb from booze and work and drugs and TV?

Does she need technology to isolate her from the Earth
that grants her all her needs?
Does she need a society whose only priorities are fear and greed?
Does she need a society that judges the quality of it's food by it's relative toxicity?
Does she need a periphery of people she's never met for a community?

A child needs air that is clean to breath.
A child needs water that is clean to drink.
A child needs food that is clean to eat.
A child needs parents whose hearts are clean and minds serene."
